Create a "Direct Dial" widget/shortcut on your homescreen by long pressing an empty spot on that screen and or Menu-add widget.

Long pressing the 1 key on the dialer still works to go straight to a number's voicemail. The voicemail icon in the notification bar indicating there is a voicemail waiting is also a great shortcut to accessing the voicemail.

There are many ways to accomplish dialing your basic voicemail and you can even add 2 commas and your PIN to your direct dial shortcut to call right in.

Example:

123-456-7890,,PIN# (4 digit PIN)
