Made the mistake of accepting of accepting latest s/w update 5/15/15. Now when I change ring tone volume I am left to just guess how loud it will be or what it will sound like.
What a fudged.
Turn off phone
Remove the battery and reinsert.
Hold down the Home and Volume Up keys
Press and hold the Power button while still holding the other keys.
As soon as you see the Samsung logo, release all keys/buttons.
Press on the Volume Down to scroll down to Wipe Cache Partition.
Press the Power button to select it.
Press the Volume down button to highlight "Yes" and press the Power Button to select it.
Wait for a few minutes for the phone to clear the data.
Then press the Power button to select reboot system now.
Wait for your phone to reboot.
It should sound like the ringtone you chose and it should be as loud as you set the ringtone volume slider to be. You could test the volume by having someone text or call you, or you should here the volume when you set the tone.
The previous version would play the sound RIGHT after moving the slider bar. Now it does not. There is no way to determine the volume. VERY BAD.
Were you able to test the sound by having someone call you?
So, every time I wish to change the volume of the ringer, I follow this process:
1) Adjust the volume,
2) Have someone call me,
3) If the volume is NOT acceptable, go to step one, otherwise the process is complete.
Does Verizon have a customer service representative that can be available to assist me in selecting a ringer volume that I find acceptable, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week ?
Is it conceivable I may wish to change the volume of my ringer several times a day ?
Do you at all understand that something is now broken ?

Odd ... that should still work. If you tap the slider, does the ringtone play? Have you tried doing a system cache clear and see if that makes any difference?
How does one do a system cache clear ?
