Samsung Galaxy s5 updated to lollipop & indicator lights stopped

I updated my Galaxy s5 to lollipop last evening and ever since, my LED indicator lights have stopped working. So I can have 15 text messages plus 3 emails & 2 missed calls, but I recrive no notifications if my screen is off. How can I fix this? I've checked the settings under display>LED indicator and they are all checked & on.

I had this same problem. There is a fix. Go into settings, then "Sound and Notifications", then "interruptions".

Check off the boxes for phone calls and messages. Put the phone on vibrate setting, instead of mute, and then turn vibration intensity all the way down. It apparently won't work in mute.

Have you considered a factory reset after this major update? Most will say that this is not always needed because updates are supposed to install seamlessly on top of the old, but sometimes things go awry.

I have this issue to with our phones after the update. I have chatted with Verizon support which tried a few things to do to see if it would fix. It did not. They referred me to Samsung which they tried a few things and then referred me back to Verizon or to send phone in for repair. Which the phone is perfectly fine. I hope there is a fix!

Sorry to see that you are also having trouble with notifications! Could you share with us what steps they took to resolve the problem? Does the problem persist in Safe Mode? http://vz.to/1xp1XUi . Are we missing notification for texts, email and voicemail? When charging?

As the originator of this thread, I'll reply to Customer Support (even though it wasn't directed to me.)

I've checked that the indicators were activated, by going to Settings>Display>LED indicator and made sure all were checked. But still, no LED notifications for texts, emails, voicemail, missed calls.

I also went to Settings>Sound and notification> application notifications, and made sure applications like emails and messaging, facebook, etc are set as "high priority."

I also made sure under notifications that "While Locked" says "show all content."

Based upon another message board, I also did a "wipe cache partition."

But still nothing.

I'm sorry to hear this is happening since the most recent update. I can understand how excited you were about the update, and how frustrating this can be. Not to worry, we'll do everything we can to help. Does the red LED light display when you charge the phone? If so, follow these steps:

Go into Settings > Applications > Application Manager. Go to ALL apps, select Messages and uncheck the notifications box and then click ok. Then check the box again. The Blue LED will blink now when new SMS messages are received.

I know these notifcations are very helpful. Have you taken any tips from this thread? I.e. checking LED indicator in settings, factory reset, etc.

None of this has worked for me. I have tried wiping cache. I was in safe mode. I tried unchecking box in application manager. Still nothing is working.

Thank you for verifying those steps have been taken. Were you able to complete a full factory reset? I'd recommend completing and then testing before adding any 3rd party applications back to the device. This will tell us if there's a possibility of a 3rd party application conflicting with the new update.

This is crazy.. to make matters worst all my apps keeps closing off. I would be in the middle of a text and it shuts off, phone calls, everything. This update was poorly executed.

I called verizon.... they told me I needed to reinstall the OS. So I did. It now works.

So far, I'm pretty disgusted with Lollipop. It crashes constantly. I get error messages 2-3 times a day about my contacts "stopping" and it having to shut the program. It's draggy, and slow, and on a phone that is only 9 months old. My dad has the same phone with the same issues. A HORRIBLE update. Don't do it.

This is insane. Not only is lollipop ugly and very cartoonish, lacking any class and style but it is slow and now my s5 is not my s5 anymore. I still can't figure out my damn alarm. I work in a professional environment in money marketing and finances so my phone is on silent moat of the time. The led is key for my job and the reason why I stick with Samsung. Now, it won't work and my damn alarm won't work either. I shouldn't have to go through menus and menus to figure this crap out. I want my phone back to where it worked the way I wanted it to. Lollipop is absolutely the worst thing Verizon could have done to their paying customers. I want a full refund for my phones and the $204 I paid this month for my phone bill.

This is weird. I update, my lights stop working. Wife updates and hers work just fine.

Try running a System cache clear or run a Factory Reset if need be, see if that gets your issue resolved.!

The same thing happened to me. I searched the Internets and found a few things that I tried separately, but nothing worked. Then, I combined a bunch of things and finally got the lights to work for me. Here is what I did, and in the order I did them:

First, I cleared the cache. shut the phone down completely, and restart by pushing the volume up, power, and home buttons simultaneously. A menu will pop up and you can navigate to clear the cache.

Once the cache is cleared, reboot the phone from that same menu.

Once the phone is rebooted, go into settings>display>LED lights, and turn off all of them.

Exit the menu back to home, and then shut down and restart the phone.

Once the phone has restarted, go back to the LED menu, and turn everything back on again.

Exit the menu back to home, and the shut down and restart the phone.

This was an annoying process, bit at least my lights are working now, without having to change my sound/vibrate settings.

I have a simple solution for u to get u by until they fix this bull crap... i have the same problems every last one of them.. i called verizon and of course they are blaming Samsung. Put ur phone on vibrate, go into the settings and turn ur vibrate intensity all the way down, basically ur phone is going to be on vibrate but acting as the silent option, that way u will get the LED light to work again and ur alarm, dont mess with the interruptions crap Or if u do put it to where interuptions doesnt matter. Hope this helps.

This didn't work for me. I went as far as going back to factory reset. I will try what the next two say below with the vibrate being on low.

We certainly want to make sure your indicator light works great for you! Does the phone still show a notification for these in the notifications bar? Does the light flash at all? Is it the same for all notifications?

I agree. I work in the Commercial Real Estate field in NYC. My phone has been on silent from the minute I took it out of the box. I shouldn't have to check it every 5 minutes to see if I missed a call or text. As for the alarm.... GAH!!! I was almost late for work the day of the upgrade because it never sounded! Even after setting it to priority, etc. In addition, dropped calls, texts that haven't even been sent or received... for people who use their phones for business, this update couldn't have been worse!!

We had been with Verizon for about 15 years and they screw my entire job up with one update. Let's add on the fact Samsung and Verizon play childish games of blaming each other and offer ABSOLUTELY ZERO help. Be responsible and test your updates before screwing all of us out of our jobs and family emergencies. I am THOROUGHLY disgusted with Verizon and looking for a new carrier ASAP before Verizon Wireless costs me anymore business. I suggest everyone else finds a new carrier who will buy out your contract as well before Verizon screws you over thoroughly too.

Well you can't throw all the blame at Verizon as there are other party Guest that are involved and updates come N go and with this one showing its ugly paws yes it's hurt / upsets many) I have some family that is going through the same issues one of which Quoted he would love to throw his phone into something that can't be repeated on hear and hand it to a High ranking Verizon exec or Samsung exec and say now you try and use this phone..

Its bad really Bad but as I've told my relatives that are dealing with this latest issue and for you and other forum members hang in there as long as you can if you can't though run by a Local store and see if they have an S5 that has not been updated yet and see if there's a chance you can Warranty yours out and get one as I said that has not been update yet if your store has Quite a few S5's on hand more n likely one of them has not been updated to Lollipop.!

Are you having additional issues other then the issue with the LED notification indicator? If so, what other issues are you having? In regards to the LED indicator, do you notice if your device only has issues with the LED notification indicator when the phone is in silent mode only?

Works fine with all 3rd party apps. No indicator for calls, texts, alarm will not work. Tried all of the above solutions other have used. I always have mine on vibrate.

I am having this same problem. Also, on the lock screen instead of the helpful icons I now get freaking "Verizon Wireless" text- WHAT THE ?

Please roll this back and push a new update ASAP. This is core / critical functionality I need to see the lights and the icons when the phone is locked and silent.

yes I am having tons of issues... My apps keeps cutting off, messages, contacts keeps force stopping, cant get notifications.. This is annoying and you all keep telling us to do what we ALL Have tried instead of fixing the ridiculous updates that are and inconvenience... Im sick of this foolish crap... For the cost of my bill every month which is 250, this is such a shame......

I had the same problem with the lights not working and the only solution I have found is putting the phone on vibrate and putting the intensity on 0. The lights work on every text when I do this and email. I don't know about missed calls. Hope this helps.

so now that I am using Vibrate as silent, what can i use as vibrate, so if i now use the ringer as Virbrate, what wud i use for the ringer.... catch my drift. they didnt think this crap through and now everyone is having issues....

I've been having the same issue since upgrading to Lollipop. Like so many others, it's been driving me crazy!

But, this worked for my S5......

Go to Settings, then Sound & Notifications.

Scroll down to Application Notifications

From there, choose the application.

Click on it and turn Priority ON.

This allows new notifications even while Interruptions is set to- Only allow priority interruptions.

My device was NOT set to only allow priority notifications, but this worked anyway.

Updated 2 nights ago, and since then NO LIGHTS. I'm pretty pissed off and have half the mind to buy a new phone and throw this one out the window.

I have done everything - and more - of what has been suggested here. Cleared cache like 5x, messed with the notification and led light like 20x, removed the batteries like 10x, have also done factory reset (what fun that's been!) and all it did was speed things up a bit and clear the Contact crashing error thing that kept popping up every hour. I'm really really upset that my phone, which I always bragged about how much better it was than the iPhone, is now CRAP!

from the last two updates - on my lock screen - i no longer get a notification of a missed call or text etc - i will get one sound and thats it - if i am not in the room to hear it, i would never know there was anything, calls or texts etc - i have reset back to factory after trying everything and still nothing - I have the Samsung S5

Has Verizon come out with a fix for this yet? All I see from the Verizon moderators is them asking the same 2 questions about when the issue happens: is it in silent? did you try reverting to factory settings?

The answer is "ALWAYS". I only get LED notifications from 3rd party apps. Text messages (both SMS and multimedia), when received, do NOT display an LED alert. I've tried every "fix" recommended in this thread (clearing cache, reverting to factory settings, deleting all other apps besides bloatware included in the release). NOTHING makes the indicators come back.

Is there a fix? Verizon, are you there?

I want to bump this thread and ensure the VZW moderators are aware this is quite the significant design flaw for Galaxy S5 Lollipop users. The entire functionality of "silent mode" is lost with the latest update. As another user stated, the ENTIRE PURPOSE of having a SILENT MODE is for DISCRETE NOTIFICATION via the LED's. As anyone who's sat through a meeting or any other situation where there is quite a bit of silence in the room, the buzzing noise from a vibrating phone is no less and is as equally a disruption as an audible alert. There are numerous scenarios where a slight flash from the phone is all that is required. Furthermore, some of us use interval reminder settings for missed texts. As such, placing the phone on 'vibrate mode' just so the alarm can function is extremely disrupting (i.e. the repetitious buzzing from a vibrating phone through the night from missed text, etc). I sincerely hope there is sufficient protest to the "improvements" within Lollipop, phone carriers are relaying the extreme discontent from their paying customers to the developers. Personally, I just want to go back to Kit Kat, and eliminate the OS update mandate by manufacturers.

This LED light situation and the alarm situation while the phone is on silent is significantly frustrating. I use my phone for business as well and I wish I would have NEVER updated! The LED light does not work and I have to leave my phone on vibrate for the alarm to work. I sure hope these items are fixed soon or I will be forced to make the horrible switch to an iPhone. I have resisted for this long I don't want to give in now!
