Are there plans to release an update to fix the Lollipop WiFi notifications bug?

Are there any plans to release a new update that fixes the well known WiFi notifications bug in the LG G3 Lollipop (Android 5.0.1) update? I understand that it could take some time, but it would be very helpful to know if I can expect something at all. Thanks for any information you can provide.

I am sure that it is coming but try what I did. It has been successful for me for over a week.

Got to Settings---Wi-Fi---select the menu (3 dots at top right of the screen)---Advanced---Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off and switch that to No.

Thanks, that's an inventive workaround. However, I don't share your optimism that an update is coming (at least not for many months). :-( Verizon Wireless Customer Support hasn't even mentioned that they are working on it. Very disappointing. I understand they don't have a fix, but it seems they are reluctant to committing to fixing this issue.

5.1 should address wifi connection for those folks with wifi connection problems. Check out the end of the article.

No it didn't. The article is about Google having sent out the 5.1 update.

Now the ball is in the OEM's court.

An update "should" be released in about 1-3 weeks by Verizon to hopefully correct a Wifi issue. I think this fix could also correct the notification problem as well. LG does not plan on releasing 5.1 for a while and I am not even sure 5.1.1 is even on their radar. This will be a minor patch, but I am unaware if it will include any other potential fixes.

I hope you're right. How did you come by this information? From Verizon or LG? Just curious as I haven't been able to get Verizon Wireless Customer Support (or any official Verizon channel) to admit there is an issue let alone commit to providing a fix.

Short story - I had a Verizon developer contact me and he provided the information after they could not correct my Wifi issues. I am not holding my breath on this but at least it is a small glimmer of hope.

Had the same problem. Started happening right after the lollipop update. Here is how I fixed the problem...go to settings...mobile networks...system select and change from global to lte/cdma.

A link was suggested yesterday that included an app workaround from the Play store. I was skeptical but it worked...this resolved my Wifi issue and notification issue. This, of course, is a workaround and is the only one that has worked for me out of all the ones posted here and 3rd party forums. Don't pay much attention to what the article is saying (unless you own any of the devices), but look for the section that talks about "A quick workaround..." with a download this app link. Of course, use your own discretion since this is a 3rd party app.

Do not use this app! It just uses a VPN connection and looks like it routes through some servers in China and then back to a couple others. You have no idea where your data is going when you use this app. Again, DO NOT USE THAT APP!

Hmmm....I have not been able to find any bad information about that app and is used by a lot of people. It is suppose to use Google's DNS services and from what I can tell it does. Do you happen to have any sources that claim a reason to not use the app?

I'm hoping for a fix soon as well. The lollipop update has crippled my LG G3. You don't realize how important notifications are until you no longer receive them (or receive them several hours later which in some cases is worse!). I realize the underlying problem might be faulty routers, but this has affected me on nearly every wifi network I normally connect to: home (dlink router with the default and up to date firmware), work (have no control of router), relatives).

I've turned off wifi which seems to help but now my data usage is almost at its limits for the month for the first time. Thanks to the user who suggested disabling wifi when the screen is off - that seems like a good alternative.

Besides the notification problem, I've also noticed decreased battery life and overheating issues.

I just played with that app a bit on a spare phone i have....and according to my networking tools i have....VPN connects to a sever in China. THen is routed a few other countries.....um..yea....stay away.

I completely agree! The device has become almost unusable which is unfortunate because it's a great device! I'm very much thinking about switching to another smartphone if the issue is not fixed soon. Please Verizon can you give us any kind of update!?

I don't understand why everyone is saying that the phone is unusable. I don't have an issue with using it except for decreased battery life and the wifi notification issue. Every manufacturer has issues with major software updates like this. I used to use iPhone (which will never happen again especially after helping a friend get hers all backed up and making free space) and I can tell you that Apple has its own issues with software. It's just the nature of the beast.

I don't think you grasp the significance of the issue. For example if you rely on Google Hangouts as your primary messaging platform (I receive most calls and messages via my Google Voice number) and you are receiving messages a few hours later it's a major issue. If a friend texts me to meet at the gym and I get it 2 hours later, they are already done with the workout. Or if there is an emergency I won't be immediately notified via text. This is very frustrating and makes the device nearly unusable. I've dealt with other software issues in the past and typically their is reasonable work arounds. I've yet to find one for the wifi issue (and it has not been perfect over 4G either).

Like I said if it is not addressed soon, I will need to get a different device even though I really like the LG G3.

ive asked verizon about the issue and noone seems to want to answer me. ive reset my phone like they said to try 2 times now. i turned off my data when the wifi is on, nothing. my phone is on cdma/lte, nothing. not only with the wifi but the battery life isnt like it was and since i half the time cant use it theres no reason for it to die that fast. i dont get all of my text or calls anymore and now my phone is freezing and over heating. it makes no sense to pay for service when i cant even use my phone 50% of the time anymore. has anyone got a answer yet about the update?

Have you guys checked your router settings?

I found and changed my IPV6 settings from Auto Detect to 4to6 tunnel, and we are on day 5 of notifications working on our home WiFi. I know this does not help with other WiFi systems that you can't change, but at least this helps while we are at home. Good Luck and let's hope the next update when it comes, fixes this and doesn't' break anything else on what was a perfect phone on KitKat...
