When I try to update it fails at the system recovery screen. Any ideas? I've been waiting for lollipop since it was announced and this really sucks.
You should be glad it didn't install. Look around this site and see all the problems people are starting to have with the update.
rosscoble96, we want you to have the best experience possible on your device. Perhaps, this is a memory capacity issue. Try uninstaling any unwanted applications, text messages, e-mails, picture/videos, and call logs. Power your device off/on to soft reset it and attempt to retrieve the update again. Keep us posted. I factory reset my phone twice and it still won't install
I'm having this same issue, it's been driving me crazy and I tried everything to install it. I took my phone into a Verizon store and the lady said she would fix it then she just gave up before doing anything and she decided to overnight a new S5 for me instead.I'm glad someone else is having the issue and I'm not the only one. Anyways some things to possibly try (though I didnt have any luck) boot the phone into safe mode and then try installing the update. try using Kies or the Samsung update/repair tool to install the update.
Kies , VZW repair tool , are a base level FDR at best but give it a try and keep us posted. Good luck...
I am having exactly the same problem. It downloads fine, but about one minute into the install it fails. I store most files on my memory card, my phone is not bloated, there is far more memory available than it says is required. I tried Verizon's phone tech support, they couldn't answer and transferred me to Samsung support, who had me try it via PC with Kies, which said I had the latest version (crazy), and finally told me to take it to Best Buy and let the Samsung rep. there try it. I have also been waiting for this to come out and am not happy about all the hassle. I don't want to have to do a factory reset just to install it.
I also tried booting in Safe mode and installing and got the same failure to install.
well I've figured it out... you will need to use Odin to install the update if you're having this issue as I was. Here's what I did. Navigate to this link Firmwares | SamMobile
download the lollipop firmware...it was hard to find and I was surprised Kies didn't find this on it's own. The download is slow it took me about 2.5 hours even after I decided to pay the $5 for a 1 week premium account. Download Lollipop and follow the instructions on that page also. It worked for me. I now have Lollipop and cant wait to try it out. So much for the in-store Verizon visit and paying $12 to replace my galaxy, I'm going to get that money refunded.
Hopefully this helps you that were having the error during Lollipop install.
Thanks, I will try that.
The update looks very slick. I'm digging it so far and I haven't noticed any issues. The phone feels like it's hot but I've read comments elsewhere that say updating Google play services take care of that, which I just did so we'll see. I can't wait to try it out...now I'm just bummed I did that factory reset to try and resolve this.
