Has anyone with a LG G3 received the 5.0 Lollipop update today 3/10/15 ? If so where in the U.S.A. are you located ?
The version numbers may be correct, but they are not official. I'm doubting anyone really got the G3 update considering the old version numbers are still listed on Verizon's update site. they generally update that site pretty quick and make announcements on the News page.Advanced Devices Software Updates | Verizon Wireless
Smartphones – Tablets – Apps
When it comes I wonder if it will fix the DST error. Also, Verizon has not updated the LG G3 support page to reflect an update so far this morning, despite rumors of rogue and or "in the wild" reports of the contrary.
I talked to a Verizon guy in person yesterday Monday March 9th. And he said they have started releasing it. And to wait a few days for it and check periodically. I'd you don't see it by Thursday call tech support.
This is probably the last "flagship" phone I will buy from Verizon. Though their coverage may be outstanding, their product updates are the worst in the industry as it relates to transparency and time-lines. Lollipop has been around for a while now and you would think the largest carrier in the US would be all over it, or at the least keep people in the loop. Once my EDGE is done, I'm out.
I bought my G2 with the intention of buying it for what it was at the time...a Jelly Bean phone. I of course had hopes that KitKat would come, and it did, and not without issue. Now waiting on LP. I often wonder why it is that when a phone comes out it works great, but then updates cause problems.
That goes right back to my argument about transparency. If Verizon would encourage enthusiasts (read: outside Verizon) to look at what they are working on before launching a mass OTA then the "random bugs" would be almost completely mitigated. Instead updates are shrouded in mystery, deployed with little or no warning, and users are either pleasantly surprised, or very pissed.
I have not received lollipop update!! Tampa,fl here
Not heard of anyone getting update, except those who root and force fed lollipop, and one who got it on
a replacement phone. (Beginning to doubt that now.)
Nothing yet. 3/18/15 vs985
I'm waiting for 5.1
I HAVE NOT received the 5.0 lollipop update for my G3 either. I cant fathom what is taking so long. I doubt the many issues (i.e. Bluetooth, overheating, etc) are being fixed, and furthermore the UI is pretty much unchanged. The wait period for software updates is beyond excessive with verizon; this inconvenience will help determine my future with Verizon if i get another Android device After the g3.
It's ridiculous how long it is taking. I will definitely be getting whatever the next Nexus device is, or maybe a Motorola - anything that doesn't take 6+ months to get updates.
Just to further aggravate things, T-Mobile is now planning to update their G3 soon. In fact, they have a page on their site that informs customers what stage of the update process updates are in; manufacture development, T-Mobile testing, or deployment. As it enters carrier testing, information on which version is given, as well. I guess Big Red can't be bothered to keep us pesky customers in the loop on updates. We should just be glad they even remember us at all, outside of payment due dates.
Verizon, please just show a little transparency about the status of Lollipop for the LG G3. If there are issues, just say that there are issues. We won't fault you for wanting to put out an update that is clean. It is worth the wait rather than having everyone complain about a rushed-out update full of bugs. We just want to know because other carriers have pushed it out to their devices and I don't see them running for the hills. While there may be some devices with issues because of 3rd party apps, etc., it just doesn't make sense why you historically are late to the "update" game.
I went to the V store yesterday. They don't even know
In January, I was told it would come in late March...Its now the end of March and nothing. What's up Verizon?
April-May
More like FALL 2015.
I will be very surprised if we see 5.0 on VS985 before July at the earliest.
Verizon SUCKS when t comes to updating.
I won't update my G3 unless it's 5.1
I plugged my phone into the computer and used the VZ Software updater (which no one told me existed) and the phone is currently updating to Lollipop! I am glad this issue is resolved...without the help of any Verizon techs who told me to do a factory reset on the phone.
I just got the pop-up notification about 10 minutes ago asking if I wanted to upgrade. I'll do it later after I backup, get a list of the current apps I am using, then do a factory reset.
Looks like everyone was right except for you. It's out today officially. Unfortunately there is one big wifi syncing bug that came along with it.
I got the upgrade yesterday, wish I hadn't.
Now my battery drains really fast. I have trouble bringing up my keyboard, and the phone is really slow. The screen is so slow coming on that I have tried tapping again thinking it didn't take the first time and then the screen starts coming on and off, but really slowly. I hate this.
I want to go back. I had issues with my Bluetooth before the upgrade, they have fixed that issue, but with the other issues I would gladly continue to live with the Bluetooth issue over this crap.
Don't upgrade. It's a trap!!! Lollipop has issues
I upgraded my wife's phone to LG G3 VS985 this week and Lollipop came rolling in the night I was switching over. So I brought it into my own LG G3 as well. So far, no problems. No excessive battery drain. If anything, my phone is working a little faster.
Lollipop works well, but my notifications (non-SMS/MMS) are wonky. When on WiFi, they come in whenever they feel like it. If I haven't had any notifications in a while, I can turn off WiFi and my phone blows up with numerous notifications.
Otherwise, Lollipop works great.
