Contact pictures keep disappearing

I have a Galaxy S4 (just got it about a month ago) and I have put pictures in my contacts several times and they keep disappearing.  Sometimes only a few disappear and sometimes most of them.  There is no consistency to when or how many disappear.  I am using pictures in my gallery on the phone.  Can anyone help?

-Did you import the pictures?

Open Contacts, then Menu key>Contacts to Display, what do you see here?
