why is my sync icon on all the time?

my sync icon has been on for a day and a half and I can't figure out what's trying to sync

Hello joelblair85! I know how frustrating it can be when you can't match an icon to a specific app! What make & model phone do you have? Which apps do you know of sync on a regular basis?

I had this same issue on my android phone (LG G2). Turns out that it was caused because I didn't change my Microsoft Exchange password in gMail after I changed it in Exchange. gMail kept trying to sync (unsuccessfully) with Exchange.

Go to Settings---Accounts---Google and check the account to see what is trying to sync.
