I'm no getting notifications over wifi on lolipop version 5.0.1 on the LG G3, I've heard that this is related to IPv6.
I'm having the same issues. I do not receive notifications (Gmail or games telling me it's my turn) when connected to my home WiFi router. All SMS messages seems to come in and notify properly, it's just other types of notifications. As soon as I turn WiFi off, or even drive away from my house (WiFi disconnects) I get absolutely spammed with notifications. It's like the notifications are stuck in some sort of cache waiting to be unleashed!
My home router is a newer ASUS router that has IPV6 capability. I'm not at home, but when I get home I'll see if I can turn off IPV6 on the router and fix the issue. I really don't want to keep IPV6 on the router turned off because Windows Homegroup relies on it to work optimally.
All non- phone or sms notifications don't work over wifi
They work the 4g but they don't work over wifi
Add me to the list along with pretty much every Verizon G3 owner running Lollipop. I am actually still on 23A but the notifications bug is just the same for me. My data usage has skyrocketed to the point where I have already met my monthly cap due to wifi not working properly (I really can't do without email notifications). I really hope this can get fixed in a timely manner as I really do not wish to have to root the phone to fix it myself.
Sherita, I am also having this issue as well as the phone having to be manually connected to Wi-Fi instead of auto connect. Lollipop seems to be quite buggy...when are we going to see a fix?
Same with me. Lollipop update has many apps that will not work over wifi. Turn wifi off and everything works. Guess Verizon wants data overage revenue.
I have the same issue, and in fact it has been reported quite frequently in many places (http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2z1gyo/fix_lollipop_wifi_issues_and_coincidentally_the/). The issue seems to be that the phone does not properly detect that IPv6 is not working (which it doesn't on many ISPs including Verizon FIOS) and tries to connect via IPv6. On 4G LTE, IPv6 does work and all is well. Pretty sure things work on WiFi if IPv6 works via the users WiFi (http://test-ipv6.com). It would be great if Verizon Wireless Customer Support could confirm that they are indeed aware of this issue and are planning to release a fix soon. This issue significantly impacts the usefulness of the phone and is not something I expect from a high end carrier on a high end phone.
What has worked quite successfully for is the following:
Since the issue is not just when the device is connected to Wi-Fi but when the device's screen is off (standby) and connected to Wi-Fi. I went into the Wi-Fi settings, tapped the menu, headed to Advanced and changed the setting for Keep Wi-Fi on when screen is off to No.
Less than a minute after I turn the screen off the Wi-Fi disconnects and I get my notifications flawlessly. No, this isn't a complete fix but it does help. I also monitor my data usage daily, even before these issues, and haven't seen an spike in usage. Before anyone says that they'll use more data, please think about how this works when you are NOT at home connected to Wi-Fi. How much data do you use when your device is asleep then. Let's get real and just take this information and use it or not. It has worked for me and is not that complicated as trying to change Wi-Fi settings and developer options. It is an easy workaround until Google releases a fix. Take my advice or don't but please don't get up in arms. You're having an issue, I am passing along information that helps get around that issue. Don't start a riot.
Lol. This problem has nothing to do with Google updates. Verizon pushed an outdated version of Lollipop to LG G3 phones. Even then, this bug is in the update Verizon developed and pushed. It's specific to Verizon.
You are not waiting on Google to push an update. You are waiting on Verizon to acknowledge and fix the problem.
Like I said, I wrote what works for me to get around the issue until it fixed. Use it or don't. It doesn't really matter to me.
I am having this problem as well. I could care less about game notifications. This affects my business. I use the ebay and Amazon apps and rely on notifications to let me know when I have sold something or need to answer a customer inquiry or return request. Those notifications only arrive when I am NOT connected to wifi. Yes, I can check manually....but I shouldn't have to.
There is no fix or workaround from Verizon yet. I ended up forcing the issue through support and escalating. Negotiated a Nexus 6 to be shipped to me next day, shipped LG back at no cost. Nexus 6 is pure heaven and so much faster and simply better on the latest Android.
Ladies and Gents,
Earlier in this thread I provided a workaround that has been working quite successfully for me for a number of weeks. You might want to try it then report back if you are having issues.
Regardless of what I said, customer service would only offer to ship me a used phone with old software. This should go really well for the masses. Based on your recent methods, a very important aspect can be overlooked in testing. Are you just going to keep sending out used old phones with old software for these scenarios?
