Will iPhones work while traveling in Costa Rica?

We will be traveling in Costa Rica soon. Will our iPhone's work? What are the rates? Is there anything we need to do so that the phones will work? What about the data? How do we call a phone in Costa Rica while we are in Costa Rica using our US iPhones? How do we dial a U.S. phone while in Costa Rica. What are the data charges? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Any further tips you can add that I may not have thought to ask would be greatly welcomed. Thank you.

I would definitely look into the Global Roaming option offered by Verizon and the associated FAQs. Global Roaming FAQs | Verizon Wireless

You can also log into your account and see which if any of your phones are eligible to enable Global Roaming on.

Has an answer been provided for this? We are going to Costa Rica with an iPhone 6 and have signed up for the Global Bundle. Verizon says this will work for phone calls and texting. I am not confident this will work. How will this work? All of the info on the Internet says you need a new SIM card in Costa Rica and also a new phone or an unlocked phone that works on one of Costa Rican networks. It is crazy that I have to make it a research project to find out how to use a phone in Costa Rica.
