It won't work. I will just bug Verizon until it’s rectified. Come on Verizon, Google, Android fix this or give me a new phone. Annoyed User.
I am having the same issue. After the new update my messenger has been very slow as well as some random freezing. I have already tried uninstalling and re-installing any and all apps that were having issues and when that didn't work, I called Verizon. They had me back everything up to the cloud and do a factory reset. Did that and still having issues, mostly with messenger.
Hi Jorge O,
I have the HTC ONE. I updated to lollipop when it came out, maybe a month
or two ago. The app that is running very slow is the Facebook Messenger.
I have like I said uninstalled, turned off phone and re-installed
application. Still running slow. What happens is when I'm in a
conversation and hit the send button and go to type something again it
freezes for a few seconds.
Thank You,
Danica O.

Sometimes upgrading/updating will slow devices down. I've had that problem before. I would recommend you backuip all your apps, passwords, etc and do a Wipe of the phone. (Factory reset) then your phone will most likely go back to its usual self.
Whyldchild,
I've already done a factory reset...didn't help!

I, too, am having trouble with this latest Android update (5.0 on an LGVS980 4G LTE). It appears that the phone is now continuously interchanging data over the mobile data system, even when the "mobile date" is switched off. As we have a low data ceiling, this is a real problem. In digging into the apps I found (settings>general>application manager>all>QuckMemo+) that QuickMemo+ is always running.I can "Force stop" but it quickly restarts itself. This app has VERY wide permissions.I suspect it is continually uploading user information using mobile data even if you don't have it turned on. My wife uses her phone much more than I, with mobile data switched off, and shows a larger steady data use than I. I have a steady, but slower use. The QuickMemo+ app does not show up as running. You have to go all the way into settings>application manager>all to even find it, and if you search for it in that category, it does not show up. It is not possible to remove this app in any conventional way. It always has data in its caches. You can not permanently disable or stop it. I suspect the only way to get rid of it is through root access with a tool, a dicey thing to do. It was ballyhooed as a "New feature" in Lollipop. I think Verizon likes it because it drives users to higher levels of service. I would also expect it to slow down the user experience, as the more you use it, the greater the overhead. Couple this with the fact the Android 5.0 leaves ALL apps you have started running until you have explicitly closed them in Task Manager and you can expect a large overhead and slow performance. VERIZON MUST FIX THIS.
I was replying to the OP. Are you referring to Google Messenger (SMS) or Facebook Messenger?
facebook messenger.
