Redirect malware?

Sessions on the native browser on my S4 are frequently being interrupted by redirects to either the Game of War app site on Play Store or a fake malware warning popup appears and asks me to click on it to scan my phone. Sometimes my McAfee antivirus app pops up a warning over that fake one that it is a suspicious website. The website addresses on the fake popup are either "update.androidsafety.net" or "overviewed.com"

I've reset the phone. Ive scanned the phone with McAfee and Malwarebytes but neither one found any malware. I also cleared the cache and data on the Internet browser app, but the redirect problem keeps coming back. What can I do to get rid of this?

The redirecting pages in the browser to the Play Store can definitely be concerning and annoying. I know from personal experience. I can certainly assist you with your inquiry. Oftentimes, you will not have a virus or malware at all when dealing with this issue. The redirection comes from the embedded scripting of the visited webpage or its pop-up page in the browser. This is quite common of sites such as torrent websites and others that use these type of ads for revenue generating purposes. The only way to prevent them is usually not to visit the website that causes them to appear. If you have need of these sites however, then you just have to press the back key quickly enough before the redirection occurs.

Thanks for the reply. That explanation sounds plausible enough but I don't completely buy it because this all just began last week.The redirection commonly occurs on newspaper sites i have been using for years without any problems, and even when browsing on discussion forum sites that have no advertising or popups. I doubt that multiple unrelated sites would have changed their embedding at the same time.

And where is the fake malware warning popup coming from? My Macafee sometimes pops up a warning over it to prevent me from clicking on it, so something malevolent is going on.
