3G not working, 4G works when in range

The 3G on my S4 hasn't been working since yesterday, my 4G, wifi, and regular phone reception work fine. But when I am not on WiFi and out of 4G range there is only a greyed out 3G on my notification bar. I have tried taking the sim out, rebooting, and all other generic trouble shooting fixes. Any ideas?

Someone else with an iPhone was just saying they were having this issue. Totally bizarre. Under settings>more network>mobile network>network mode try changing it to LTE/CDMA and then if that doesn't work to LTE/GSM/UMTS and see what happens. I'm guessing it's set to Global already, but if not just try the 2 options that aren't selected.

I've tried that a few times and have had no success. Thank you for the response though.

I'd try getting a new SIM card for a Verizon Corporate store, they are free. I haven't heard back from the iPhone user who was going to do this also.

Went to Verizon on my lunch, was told that the sim card only controls the 4G connection and has nothing to do with 3G.
