"Unfortunately..."

Last night when I was using a reading app on my phone, in the middle of it I started getting all these messages beginning with "Unfortunately." I continued to hit OK, but then a different one would pop up (Google Play, Calendar, Contacts, Verizon stuff, etc.). I shut the phone off overnight, started it this morning, and the same thing happens. Now I've gotten "Unfortunately, home screen has stopped." It's blank. In searching this site, I saw someone else was able to swipe down to get to their settings, which I can do, but I don't know what to do now. Can anyone help me please? I can't use my phone at all (other than the settings, I guess)! Thank you!

What phone do you have? Do you regularly back up your data; contacts, pictures, videos etc? If so you may need to do a factory reset and possibly one more if in doing one it gets your screen to come back on.

I have a Droid RAZR M. My photos sync to Google, my contacts are all Google contacts, and music is pretty much through Amazon Prime, so if I do a reset, can't I just get it back through those apps? I'm obviously not very phone tech-savvy - I use it mostly to just read and message, so I can't think of anything that would be a big deal to reset (I'm sure there's something in there I'll regret, but...). I tried to do a factory reset through the settings, but the "unfortunately" loop keeps coming up and it apparently won't respond. I also tried doing a power down, then holding the power and volume up buttons until I got "dead Andy," but it said "No command," and I was unable to go any further, so I powered the sucker down again... and that's where I'm at. *Sigh*

Uh oh. The hard reset is where you power down and then hold the volume down key and power key at the same time. It should boot up a screen where you can factory reset. You can youtube factory reset for your phone just to make sure you're doing it right, I'm not at the computer to find you a video.

Okay, thanks. I'm headed into the Verizon store to see if they can help me.

Not a good day to have this problem (although is there ever a good day?).
