What defines month-2-month?

Ok... so was hoping someone might be able to help me out.

I added a line to my More Everything and it is month-2-month.  I did this because I wanted the $25 discount which I was getting with my old iPhone 5.  I brought over my unlocked ATT iPhone 6+ and it appears the discount is gone.  I am guessing because it isn't a recognized Verizon phone right?

So now my question is this.  If I were to buy a used Verizon 6+, would I get the month-2-month discount on my line?  I doubt the phone I would be buying was bought at full retail, was probably bought on contract... would the phone still be not able to get month-2-month discount or is it my line that qualifies?  Does this make sense?

That appears to be the case, and it has been reported before.  If you put an unrecognized device on the line, you don't get the month to month.  A used Verizon phone, as long as it's "clean" would get the M2M discount. Remember you must add it to the account yourself, it is not automatic.  It would not matter if the phone itself was bought full retail, or under contract. Keep in mind if it was bought on contract, and the original owner defaults on that contract, the phone will be blacklisted if the early term fee is not paid.
