Moto vs Eris

my 30 day trial for the Eris is just about up. even though i like this phone, the battery life is iritating me. with task killer & cutting things off, the battery still barely last 10 hrs a day. my question is this. a VZW rep told me today the Moto Droid does not have great battery life either but last much longer than the Eris & said even though it's $100 more, it's worth the upgrade. is he right? if someone out there owns both, is the battery life better on the Moto & why is this phone worth the $100 upgrade? thx

Well, I can't answer your specific question, but I can tell you I bought a replacement battery for my Eris on Ebay today that's rated 200mah higher than the original battery...$9,99 shipped.

The number of hours the Droid is good for depends on quite a few things, obviously how much you use it... I think it's better than the Eris, but haven't done a minute by minute comparison with my daughter's Eris.

I was getting about 12 to 14 hours with everything "stock" and the WiFi turned off except when I was actually using WiFi.

If the ROM that is finally released by Verizon/Motorola for the Android 2.1 update is antying compared to some of the custom builds out there now, you should see a dramatic increase in battery life. I can get about 20 hours of use out of my Motorola Droid now, even with active wallpapers, and I've even added a bluetooth headset since then, which should have added additional drain on the battery.

Of course, with the Eris you don't have any options but what is currently available.

I do not use any form of "task killer" on the phone what-so-ever... I don't even have one installed. With the Moto Droid, being stock Android, there just isn't any HTC supplied "junk" running in the background, making it unnecessary to mess with.

You can also go into setting and apps directly from the Android OS and terminate certain running apps if you wish (I think that's in 2.0.1 - It's been a looong time since I played with 2.0.1)

If the phone isn't too large to be comfortable for you, I would definitely recommend it... You won't be dissapointed in the increased speed and smoothness of the phone compared to the Eris. (The Processor "clock speed" is only slightly higher, but it's a different generation of CPU and is actually about twice the speed of the Eris, and capable of much more.) You also do not have the overhead of the SenseUI interface. On the down-side, you loose the HTC supplied widgets, but can get a lot of the functionality of those back with Beautiful Widgets from the Market (it costs a couple of bucks, not free). You also loose the 7 desktops, and will be "stuck" with only 3 desktops until Android 2.1 is released, when you will go to 5 available desktops... (Maybe more) If you need more right away, there are always some of the custom "home screen replacement" apps like Open Home, Panda Home, Ahome etc.

Speaking of the market, if you purchased any apps for your Eris, those can be re-installed on your new phone without paying for them again, as long as you use the same Gmail account to sign into your new Droid.
