Voice Mail with WIFI

To save data usage I turn cellular data off when I have the option for WIFI. I noticed recently I wasn't receiving voice mail alerts until much later. I finally put two and two together - I wasn't getting alerts when I was connected via WIFI or rather would not receive the alert until I turned cellular data back on. Please please please tell me there is a fix for this as I always use WIFI when I am home and when at work. Thanks.

Seems like that is the case, there is another option if you don't mind signing up for a free google voice phone number. You can setup your phone to forward your calls to google voice for voicemail and when you get a voicemail you can have it send the notification along with a text translation to your email and/or text. The other use for the google voice number is that it gives you another phone number that you can optionally forward to your cell phone and use as a secondary number that you can use for people/places that you may want/need to block or don't want to receive calls from. On that number you can setup things like caller must announce themselves prior to forwarding, blocking, auto forward to voicemail, or even respond with a this number has been disconnected message. I use mine like I would a home phone number for businesses that require it for signup. The process of signing up is easy as is the forwarding (requires calling a few sequences of number into your phone to setup the forwarding). If you are interested I can provide you with more info.

Go to http://voice.google.com and sign in to your account, sign up for a new google voice number. You can enter your area code and then enter either parts of a phone number or letters to search for specific numbers or just browse for a number that you like.

Once you have the new google voice number then you dial the following into your phone to enable the various types of forwarding, hitting send after each, they will say something usually and hang up.

*71[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Conditional Forwarding, which should transfer calls to your Google Voice number when your Verizon phone is busy or unanswered after 3 to 6 rings.
*90[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on Busy Transfer, which transfers all calls that would hear a busy signal to your Google Voice number.
*92[Your Google Voice number] -- This turns on No Answer Transfer, which transfers all calls unanswered after 3 to 6 rings to your Google Voice number.

To Deactivate the Call Forwarding, dial *73 [Send]
To Deactivate the Busy Transfer, dial *900 [Send]
To Deactivate the No Answer Transfer, dial *902 [Send]

You can dial your google voice number from your cell or other phone to listen to messages or login to voice.google.com to listen to messages on computer or read them as translated via text, email or online.

You can also see all your voice mail messages in google voice online and use settings there to decide what to forward call wise to your cell phone or home phone or work phone, or all simultaneously if you choose. If you get a call from a google voice number you can even listen in while they leave the message and pick the call if you choose. There is a google voice app available for your phone but not needed unless you decide you want to make calls from your phone that appear to come from the google voice number instead of your cell phone.
