Unusual battery drain. "Cell standby" is #1 at 25-50%

I've had the Samsung Galaxy s6 since April 11th. From day one, I've noticed poor batter life. When I check under Settings, Battery, I consistently see "Cell standby" as the #1 draining resource, ranging from 25-50%. I never saw such numbers on my Motorola Droid HD Maxx. I suspect either a factory defect or a bug. Anyone else seeing this?

We want to make sure your battery is fully charged MarkinPA! Have you installed any new applications? Did you make sure all applications are updated?Please http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-153625/ wipe the cache partition on your phone this will help improve your battery life. Also if you have GPS on it can also drain your battery. I would recommend uninstalling any applications you don't use no more and turning off what you can.

I did practically everything you suggested. Since the phone is less than

two weeks old there are no apps that I have installed that I don't use any

longer.

You still have not addressed the primary question that I had and that is

what does cell standby mean and why is cell standby using up so much of the

battery.

You're not alone. I'm seeing the same problem on two phones, and it is directly related to wifi usage--turn wifi off and the drain will be significantly diminished. In fact, my battery life doubles if I don't use wifi. I tried many, many things including wiping the cache, running in safe mode, performing a full factory reset and running no 3rd party apps, and the problem is always wifi.

If you haven't already, you might try calling Technical Support and getting put through to the 2nd tier (?) of support crew. I finally spoke to someone today didn't try to blame me for the problem (I've jumped through all the hoops) and really started digging in to the issue. Good luck, here's to a quick painless fix!

Yes, Mark. I'm seeing this as well. It really didn't concern me until I checked the battery usage and saw that Cell Standby was eating up a big chunk of the battery. Then I got self conscious about it and starting searching the Web like mad! From what I've seen, it's related to the WiFi and has absolutely almost nothing to do with the cell radio. It seems to be a bug related to Lollipop and hopefully will be addressed in the 5.1 update. I'm just about to make a blog post on here about the same issue. The more aware the community becomes, the more we bring the issue up, hopefully the quicker the issue is taken care of.
