Weak cell signal in strong areas

I have a Moto G prepaid phone. Nice phone but the signal is weak in areas where it should be strong. I have a Verizon older flip phone and it is getting 4 bars when the Moto G is only getting one or two bars and sometimes none. Is it possible I need a new sim card? The phone is new and updates are up to date. It is system version 210.12.41.falcon_cdma.Verizon.enUS vzw running android 4.4.4
