Move Verizon Number to Another Line

I have 6 lines currently on the Verizon More Everything plan. One of the lines is out of contract and I no longer need it anymore but I would like to keep the number. Is it possible to move that number to one of my contract lines and then close the line that is not in contract?

Ok I managed to get it done so I will explain the process if anyone else needs help.

I wanted to move a phone number from my line that did not have a contract to a line that did have a contract and close the line I did not need without paying early termination by cancelling a contract line. I used Google Voice as suggested. This was my experience:

Went to Google Voice and ported my number out from Verizon from my line that had no contract. It cost $20 and they said it could take up to 24 hours for the port to complete.

It took exactly 24 hours for Google to port my number. I immediately went to the page to unlock the Google number for porting. You cannot port without doing that. I waited about an hour and called Verizon to port the number. The lady I talked to seemed confused about Google Voice but she was still helpful. After getting all the port information she tried to submit it but there was an error. She called for help and realized that when the number ported off of my line it only suspended the line and that it would close automatically at the end of my billing cycle. She force closed the line and the port was submitted. She said her port department informed her that Google Voice was like a land line and it could take 2-10 business days.

Received a text on the Verizon phone the number was ported to informing me to restart the device for the changes to take place. I did that and sure enough the new phone number was on there. Calls were immediately able to be sent and received and texts could be sent but not received. After 2 hours texts were all working fine!

The process cost $20 but was relatively painless. Took a total of about 55 hours from the very start to when everything was working perfectly on the phone. I wish Verizon could have done it all but it is what it is. I hope this helps!

I have also seen on the internet that if you want to keep the line open you are porting from you can request a new number from Verizon immediately after requesting the port to Google Voice, look it up for a tutorial

I made sure that my billing address was updated in Google Wallet, not sure if it was necessary but you will need an address associated with the line for Verizon to port in and there is not one for Google Voice.

I never set up a voicemail PIN with Google so I did not need a PIN for Verizon to port in from Google Voice. You may need to deactivate Google Voicemail if you activated it before you try to port to Verizon.

I have considered that just thought there would be an easier way with Verizon. I talked to a CSR and she said she did it but in reality she just swapped the SIM information which helped nothing. It looks like I can port to Google Voice and then port back out to Verizon. I may do that.
