Asking for pricing on adding a 3rd line

We have 2 iPhones on Edge, and was looking to add our oldest son to our plan in the next few months.

I was hoping I could simply get a Verizon branded Pre-Paid phone (around $40) and use that. Unfortunately I was informed that the phone had to be "seasoned" and used on the pre-paid network for 6 months first, before I could add it to my current Edge data plan.

My only other option is to finance a phone for 2 years, and add it that way.

Is this truly my only option? The sales guy on the phone was pushing for an iPhone with added insurance for $40-45 more a month.

You can buy a used phone in good condition from a reputable site such as swappa.com or glyde.com. You can also get a Verizon phone from friends or relatives that they are not using anymore. Then to add it to your More Everything plan it would only be $25/month extra if you have 4 GB or less, and only $15/month if you have 6 GB or more on your plan. In our family, that is what we do.

If you do this, once you add the phone, call up and make sure you have the month to month discount on the line to get the prices I said above.

of course he's pushing an iPhone it's the priciest one. And you don't HAVE to have insurance. They'll add it anyway if you get the edge plan so you'll have to log in and remove it. They have Windows 8.1 phone for $120 and a Samsung Android phone for $168. Not high end of course, but for $40 you weren't getting a high end pre-paid phone anyway. So you could pay the $168 and assuming you have a 6 GB plan or more the new line would be month to month and you'd get a $25 line access discount and the line would only be $15 a month plus tax/fees.
