Why am I using data while on Wifi?

I have a new Note 4. When I'm on Wifi, the phone will occassionly revert to 4G. A VZW rep told me that if Verizon feels that the Wifi is not good enough it will automatically use our data. Since I'm on WiFi I don't want to use data. Besides turning off mobile data, how can I configure the phone to only use Wifi while on Wifi?

Jack,

Go to: Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced -> Smart Network Switch.

Uncheck that box and you will disable the feature. Per the previous user, if you disable Mobile Data you may not receive mms messages.

I also have a Note4. For the most part I am on WiFi. I always click mobile data off when I have WiFi on. Since I started using WiFi on 01-18-15 I have never had the phone to automatically switch over to mobile data. I have the settings for mobile data and WiFi in my active buttons notification panel.

When you disable mobile data it automatically disables the smart network switch. So far with mobile data disabled I send and receive text messages . Send text messages with pictures. Use phone and Internet at same time.

Do everything with mobile data off and WiFi on as I did with WiFi off and mobile data on.

Hopefully you will find what works for your Note4 but this is what works for my Note4.

Sure does, but if he just disabled the feature he'll never have to worry about forgetting to toggle mobile on and off. Win win for the user. Which also answers his original question how to permanently disable the auto switch.

I can only offer what had worked for me. I am used to turning on my Bluetooth when I get in my car . So I have my Bluetooth in my active button notification tray along with the WiFi and mobile data button. So I 've not forgot to toggle as needed. This has worked for me may not work for anyone else. Just another option to consider.
