Transfering phone minutes on a prepaid to a new prepaid smartphone

I'm wanting to buy a new prepaid verizon smartphone, since the one I have now is going to crap.   My phone service is good until April.  If I buy a new prepaid verizon smartphone now, will that balance transfer to the new phone?     I'm getting mixed answers.  Does anyone know for sure?
