Switching over to verizon

I recently started the switch to verizon. Ran into some trouble with the credit side (needed more info), but in the mean time verizon started porting my number over from my other phone company. That phone is now off because of the porting. Can I still use the number when I finalize everything monday at my local verizon store? Or will I need a new number because of this?

We are excited to have you join the VZW Family jgleason8. I would be more than happy to provide clarification regarding your mobile number. When porting out the number, it should be left active with your current provider. Once we complete the port, this would be notification to your old provider that you are disconnecting your account. If you disconnect your line with your current provider before completing the port process, then we would not be able to take your current number to us and will require you to start with a new mobile number. Did you leave the account active with your current provider? Are you able to receive any calls on the phone? Have you already purchased equipment with us?

They are porting your number in the process. If you were getting a new number, there would be no porting at all.

What do you mean exactly by "...finalize everything Monday at my local Verizon store?" IF you have already started the switch to Verizon and the old carrier phone is off already, do you mean disconnected or just powered off? If you are porting then your number should already be active on Verizon.
