On the galaxy s3 I could have my favorite contacts on the display on the 5 I did before all of the updates is there any way to get it back
That is a widget. It may need to be downloaded from the play store again. Open play store, tap on menu lines at top left, tap on my apps. List of those installed on left and all apps on the right.
