I was perusing my new Nexus 7 tablet which I got for the unbelievable price of $49 and I came across Google Apps Permissions and discovered that by merely owning the device you agreed to allow Google to turn on your cameras and record video and audio without your knowledge or permission! I wonder how many women who have this machine propped up in their bedroom know that?
I tried to return the device when I discovered this and found out I had exceeded the two weeks they give you for returns. Only two weeks! They know people aren't going to like this so they only give you two weeks! The machine was so new that I noticed they changed the language of this permission a couple of times within the first month that I owned it, but the basic spy feature remained as it was.
There is a disable button and it said "If you disable this feature all your data will be deleted!" How nice of them - isn't that what you call extortion? Since I had almost no data (pictures, music, contacts, emails, downloaded apps, text files, etc., etc.) I tried to disable the Apps Permission and it said that your device might not work properly if you do (this was a while ago so I don't remember the exact response). I said "continue". It came back and said in order to do this it had to restore an older operating system. I said "OK". It then said it wasn't available!
That was the run around I got when I tried to disable this outrageous and intrusive feature. I since have salted away my Nexus 7 and let the battery run down and kept it in a tin container. Nevertheless I continue to have to pay my monthly charge and I had put Navigator on the tablet and you can only delete it within the app so I'm recharging the tablet in order to do this. I'm going to once again see if they've changed this app permission, but I doubt it. I can't believe no-one has taken them to task over this thing. I may have to go to small claims court to get my money back.
If anyone has a solution I like to hear about it. Thanks.
