Phone is permanently trying to update contacts since the upgrade. Need to know how to fix. Should not have to FACTORY RESET phone as it seems to be the most common suggestion on how to fix.
Updating contacts from Google or Verizon's Cloud? Do you have an ICE contact list at the top of the contacts screen and have you tried Contacts Sync Fix - Android Apps on Google Play?
Updating the phone contacts. Meaning every phone number in my phone has no info on who it is.
Your contacts were saved somewhere right? That's where they may be trying to sync from. Where do you normally sync/back up contacts to? Google Gmail would be the most likely.
Why would I back up contacts other than to reset the phone? Wife's phone used mostly as a phone and texting. It's a phone. Doesn't make sense why I would have to "normally back things up" My HTC one has never been backed up by me per se maybe automatically but I have never had to do it
First off two seperate updates were done Saturday morning and anywhere you open contacts there is no list it just says updating with the spinning circle of death . If you try to dial a number it says phone has stopped working and closes out. If you try accessing the contacts thru the phone program it says contacts has stopped working and has to close
Sent from my HTC One on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network
No additional apps
No apps were installed by my wife on her phone And safe mode doesn't help it still closes out on its own
I'm having the same basic problem. I kept getting the annoying "update" notice, so I decided to update my S4 today-- about 2 hours ago. Everything seems to be working except the phone portion. I can call out and receive calls, but phone numbers are not recorded. When I hit the "contact" icon there is no list--all it says is "updating contact list" with a blue rotating circle and it never stops. When I go the the "favorites" and "recent" icon--all I see is the same "updating contact list." Nothing else. My phone was working perfectly before the update.
I found a solution to my problem. I was planning to do a factory reset. Around the same time I started to get notices on my phone stating my "internal storage space" was near capacity. How can that be--I have not downloaded anything. Then I starting thinking that "updating contact list" with the blue circle spinning must be downloading some kind of "junk."
I then went to settings>more>systems manager>storage>applications>android contacts storage. This app had close to 6 gigs of junk in it. I cleared both the data & cache back to zero. This completely solved my phone problems. I just had to go to "contacts" hit "backup" to download my contacts list.
Phone works just like before the update now--maybe even a little better.
