Employee discounts - what portion of the bill do they apply to?

My employer offers a 15% discount with Verizon. I currently have an individual line at $60 (includes voice/text + 1 GB data), so it is my understanding that the discount will apply to this full amount (though the discount hasn't shown up on my bill yet, so that may not be correct).

I am thinking of adding a second line. In that case, would the discount apply only to the monthly access fee for each line? One line only? Data?

It's great that your employer is offering a discount, WisconsinMom. That discount does apply to the account access of qualifying plans only. The Single Line Plans are discounted already and would not qualify for an additional employer discount. If you decided to move to the More Everything plan with either your single line or even adding a line, then the discount would apply to the account level access and not the line access fees. I am unsure if your discount will be eligible on the single line plan. You may have to be on the More Everything plan for your discount to be eligible.

If you add the 2nd line and have both lines on a shared More Everything account, the discount would apply to the data allowance portion of your bill.

Single lines do get a discount as they include an access charge and a data rate. Loyalty plans do not since they are a flat rate that includes data and access. I speak from experience here.

I had a single line plan which had a 19% employer discount on a $40 access and $60 2GB rate.

However, when I switched to a loyalty plan the employer discount was null considering the monthly rate was $0 access and $50 for 1GB or $60 for 2GB.

There is a difference between single line plans and the loyalty plans. Let's break it down. Unless it is a plan with a data add on, it's considered that loyalty plan. They from what I discern currently have that loyalty promotion plan. If they add a line and that line has the same plan, no discount. If the plan has a data add on, the discount is on the data portion.

Yes, loyalty lines do not get a discount because they are already discounted more than an employer discount usually. Loyalty lines lack the access charge and are charged only the data.

Agree with above, the single line plans do not get additional discount, as they are already discounted more than you would get.

A Regular plan with 1 GB and one line with 15% discount would be $65. So you are saving even more. You are getting the equivalent of a 33% discount. (Discount is on data portion of usual $30, access charge $40).
