Overheating & battery draining issues

Since I got this phone (about 3 months ago), I've had major overheating & battery draining issues. I've talked to Verizon about it and they just tell me to factory reset my phone and slowly install my apps one by one to figure out which one is doing it. I've done it once... I'm not going to do this every time. Even after doing this, it still has the problem. What can I do about it?

I didn't have this issue on KitKat. Then I got Lollipop and I have this issue. We just have to wait for a fix from Google and LG.

I've read through this post to figure out where you are with this, and I would like to offer some advice. I too am a G3 owner with version VS98512B (KitKat 4.4.2). I'm still rocking that version, and -- like you -- I had the superheating, battery draining phone issues, so I went to the Play Store and tried a bunch of different task killing apps. MOST OF THEM DO NOT WORK! I tried the main ones too like CleanMaster (Cheetah Mobile) and DU Speedbooster (DU Apps), In almost every case, the apps they turn off turn right back on, so they might be good on other counts, but they are useless for addressing the overheating issue. I don't care how many stars they've been given by how many users. For some reason, they don't do the job on the LG G3.

But here's the good news: THERE IS ONE THAT WORKS. Advanced Task Manager (Infolife LLC)

After loading it up, I went into the settings and pretty much checked every box and set every option from "off" to "on," except for the following: "Exit after Kill" I left unchecked because I want this app to keep running in the background; and those options referencing old interface options I left unchecked as well. Also, in the settings, you will find Regular Kill; Open that option up by clicking it and you will see the further option to specify how often it kills. I set the kill frequency to every 5 minutes. And, for even further convenience, go into your widgets (not apps) and find the Advanced Task Cleaner 1x1 widget and put it on one of your desktop screens. Whenever you feel like the phone is overheating, press that and it will do a quick task kill. When that doesn't work (rarely), I just power the phone off and on again.

I haven't had any problems with overheating since installing this app. The guys at Infolife LLC seem to be the only ones who understand this problem with apps turning back on after you shut them off, so they designed there's to continually shut them down. Good Luck.

I feel ya, bro. As I mentioned in my post addressing your overheating issue, I am still rocking VS98512B (KitKat 4.4.2). I suspected Lollipop 5.0.1 might be problematic after reading reviews of LG G2 owners who were thrilled to get it before the G3 owners but are now regretting it. Samsung S5 owners had a lot of problems with it roo, but apparently those could be easily fixed by hard resetting the S5. No such luck with the G3 though.

I think the good news here though is that the soon-to-be released G4 will be sporting the Lollipop 5.1.0 version, not the 5.0.1 version. I think this is LG's way of saying, "We know 5.0.1 sucks, but we're not going to come right out and say it." I'm hoping Lollipop 5.1.0 will be available to G3 owners soon after. Even then, I'll be sitting back with arms folded waiting to see what the general feedback looks like. If it's thumbs up, I'll do it, but if not, I'll just keep hitting "Not Now" when asked to update to the newest version.

One more thing to try here in case the Advanced Task Manager App (Infolife LLC) doesn't cure the overheating. Try going in to the Verizon store and have them update your SIM card. I spoke to two different tech reps on the phone and asked them if they thought it would be a good idea. Both said it wouldn't hurt, and one said he would positively do it. I learned about this "trick" after making the mistake of just transferring the SIM from my previous phone (HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE) thinking that it just contained the phone number. It worked, but the G3 didn't seem to work as well as advertised until I took it back up to the store and swapped out the SIM. Good luck.

I've tried everything, nothing works. And to top it off, my charger just died too. I think it was because it was constantly overheating, even while charging (and having to charge A LOT). Haven't even had this phone 4 months and everything about it SUCKS.

First of all your reply is in the LG G3 forum so no need to advise what kind of device, we as VZ paying customers want these issues resolved/fixed ASAP. My G3 worked wonderful until Lollipop!!!!!!!!! I have addressed this to VZ Support, Google, Android and LG and noone has responded or advised when we will get all the issues fixed from the update.

My issues are the following: apps dont load (they load and circle using data), wifi doesnt pick up, emails (gmail, aol and yahoo) dont load, data takes forever to connect and it says 4G but the up/down arrows never light up or move. The battery is done with in a day even when its not being used consistantly it used to last 2 days using frequently before needing to recharge, LTE/4G signal in Piedmont/Triad was bad but now i never get a signal. This is EXTREMELY frustrating and we know your aware of all the issues now work with Android, Google and LG to get it fix ASAP

Try pulling the battery and re-inserting it. Then press and hold Volume Down and Power until you see a white screen with some options. The use volume down to scroll to Clear System Cache and power to select. The phoe will reboot. If this doesn't help do a factory reset and install only that apps that you use daily.

I have the same issue. It has been burning my knee at times when in my pocket. That's how hot it would get.

This is not the experience we want you to have with our awesome LG-G3 device gsalomon. I'm sorry you're having this issue with your phone but we are here to help. When did you start to experience this issue? Have you had any issues with any of your applications?
