android 5 update to my samsung galaxy S4

I used to love my phone! Now it is a nightmare. I cannot post my photos to Facebook from my phone any more. This is extremely frustrating. The phone is very slow opening up my email. The new orange header color and pastel colors in messaging are hard on the eyes. Why are the people I message in 3 different colors? The phone keeps going dark instantly, even I turned off energy save. Can I de-install this upgrade?

You cannot uninstall the update but you can try a cache clear or a factory reset.

Wipe cache partition

If the phone is not working correctly, you may need to master reset it and also clear the cache partition. These two resets clear different parts of the phone storage. Unlike a master reset, wiping the cache partition does not delete your personal data.

To wipe the cache partition, follow these steps:

Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time:
- Volume Up key
- Home key
- Power key
When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and theHome key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
Press the Power key to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wiped.

Factory Reset

1. Stay plugged into charger for the entire process
2. Charge to 100% and back up music, photos, files etc...contacts should be saved to Google Account and use Google Drive or Google Photos to back up with as well and apps are saved in a list in your My Apps screen in the Play Store app and online using the desktop page.
3. DISABLE Google backup and restore of apps and app data in your Backup and Reset tab in your phone's main settings screen.
4. Factory Reset the phone
5. Download and/or Install update from notification bar at next boot/power on after skipping set up if possible
6. Phone will reboot after installation. Factory reset one more time as soon as possible before setting up the phone (you may have to press the back button a few times to escape the set up screen, or you may be able to skip it. Just go back to the Backup and Reset tab and FDR again.
7. Unplug from charger at 100% recharged
8. Set up your phone however you like to include apps from your My Apps screen in either the Play Store App or from the PC webpage version
9. Leave phone on until it powers off
10. Leave off and recharge to 100%

This is my usual process and I have had no issues.

The reasons for disabling app data is due to the fact that DAVLIK is now ART and the Android Optimization process might not go as planned if you just slap the new OS over the old OS. Also, when you go back to the Play Store to download apps, they will be the correct version this time for this OS.

We want you to start loving your phone again cocovieja! When did all the issues start? Have you tried to uninstall Facebook and reinstall? Does it go slow when you try to open up other email account like Gmail? There is no way to uninstall the upgrade but we will make sure we get your phone working again.

Thanks for your reply. Issues started within a week of installing android 5. Yes my email is slow opening up. Facebook is ok except for uploading the photos. I think it worked a couple of times after the update and then didn't. I am able to take one photo and post it to Facebook but I can't post a group of pictures. I have tried it 2 different ways. I am afraid to do anything at this point. Last night when I swiped my phone to open it, I only got a blank dark screen. I rebooted it by pressing my Re-start button on the side of the phone. I will go to Radio Shack where I bought my phone or to a Verizon store for help. My niece is in same situation also having problems. Her phone very slow and un-responsive to the touch. An IT person told her the operating platforms may not be compatible. Now she is thinking about switching to I Phone. Maybe Verizon shouldn't have offered the Androd 5 update for the Galaxy S4.

I love Facebook myself cocovieja! I want you both to enjoy your devices. I love the Android platform and I want you to start loving it again. I do know sometimes when you do updates on your phone it can effect your device. Especially if applciation have not been updated to operate with that system. Is your Facebook and other application updated? Try to clear the cache http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-77711/ on the applications and retry. Sometimes the appication can get bogged up. Also put your phone on http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-77504/ safe mode to see if it seems to be working better. Let me know.
