Total Protection Plan

For anyone living in Florida, I purchased the total Protection plan yesterday. Upon receiving my confirmation i reviewed my benefits and found that it says that the extended warranty is not available in Florida. I called Verizon to get a clarification and was finally informed that it was the insurance that was not available to me in Florida. The written printout from Verizon clearly stated the opposite. I had also talked to two sales people, one who had been selling Protection plans for four years, and neither salesperson was aware of the Florida provision. Needless to say I canceled the plan. I could have been paying for something I would never have received.

Florida does have special considerations regarding extended warranties; however, the Total Mobile Protection plan will cover your phone. There is a deductible that needs to be met, just like health or car insurance, but it is much cheaper than having to pay for a new smart phone. Check the retail price of your smart phone and you will see the savings. I have known many folks that have broken their phones, had no coverage and had to buy a new phone or go on some website to try and buy a used phone from someone you meet at a public place . With the Verizon TMP and the VZ Protect app on the phone, you are just a couple taps away from a LIVE - US based - tech support specialist that works not only with your phone issues but with any technology you connect to with it! Think Bluetooth in the car! You don't have to wait for a long time on the phone or drive to the store. If your cell phone is not responding you can call 1.800.922.0204 and select option 3 from any phone. You don't get bounced around to several people either. The person on the phone is your tech support person all the way through to resolve.

Yes, Florida is different than other states with extended warranties but even with a deductible I think you could agree that if I damage my phone from loss, theft, and accidental liquid or physical damage, the value of getting a like new device for a very low price is a great value when compared to getting a new, full retail phone or having to be concerned with the security, source or phone function involved with a 'public place' purchase initiated online. We have 4 phones and a tablet and all have either TMP or WPP on all devices.

Odd that nobody in the store was aware. Odder that Verizon Wireless hadn't notified this store of the legalities.

Makes me wonder how many other people in Florida purchased the protection and would find it useless?

If there are any other VZW stores in your area, could you do a little detective work and see if those other stores make the same mistake? It would be interesting to see what happens.

Yes, I can only imagine the number of people my age, 73, that have taken

out the plan, thinking they have complete Protection. And, to be clear,

Verizon does offer the extended warranty, but Asurion will not insure in

Florida. I will check a couple of other stores in this area up to Sarasota.

Deductibles are anywhere from $100 to $200 and you are sent a used phone. Typically you can get a used phone for $200 on places like www.swappa.com and you don't have to meet anywhere.

I've sold many phones on CL and there is certain criteria I follow in order to do this safely and make other folks feel safe as well. In turn you should look for certain criteria when buying online or when meeting in person.

Insurance is great for folks who are accident prone, but for people like myself if I had been paying for insurance beyond the first phone I ever had a phone I'd have wasted quite a bit of money.

There have been a couple of times insurance has come in handy for me. In those instances I was sent a new phone as opposed to a refurbished. Those phones were high end (at the time) LG flip phones.
