So I switched to the new data plan and suddenly Verizon says I'm using twice the GB I was previously. Same with my wife's phone; separate account. Anybody else notice a spike in data use?
Yes, same here - since the 28th. And just now today I get alerts and am not on the phone and its using my data when I am on Wifi???? Have you called Verizon.
Could you provide a little more information, such as the device you are using, any new apps that were recently downloaded.
If iOS 9 and higher is installed, check in Settings > Cellular and turn off WiFi Assist. It is located at the bottom of the Cellular settings screen.
iPhone 6. No new apps. Cellular Assist turned off on my phone. My wife - iPhone 6+. Haven't upgraded hers to ios9
iPhone6S, new update. No new apps, assist is off. STILL excessive uage.. .. this is a Verizon issue... at my expense.
I called Verizon separately for each line. One tech told me that it was my wifi provider upgrading their system too much, which is not true; the other noted the huge spike from months of previous use, but had no answers.
Wifi assist off on my phone; my wife hasn't upgraded to ios9
All my habits are the same; nothing new
It can also help to manually turn off the cellular data connection when you expect to be connected to a wifi router for extended periods of time to ensure you are connecting only to the wifi router.
Having the same problem. Nothing has changed - no new apps, havent updated to IOS 9.0.2, no plan changes. Woke up this morning to a "75% of data used" message. 5 minutes later we received a "90% of data used" message. No one had been using their phones at all.
I too am having the same issue. iPhone 6, still on iOS 8 and no other changes. Text yesterday saying I was 75% on data usage. I have data plan 1GB and in last 9 months have only hit 75% once and that was the day before my billing cycle ended. I wonder how many others are going through this and just paying the extra. Calling Verizon today.
