The Verizon website clearly states: "Motorola Android Device Owners: Changing your number triggers a factory reset. To avoid losing your contacts and data, back them up with your Gmail account, a computer, or a SD card."
When I talk to a Verizon rep in the store they ALL tell me that it does not trigger a reset and all it does is change my number - nothing else, apps, contacts, etc... changes
Who's right?
