Droid Turbo phone call and menu

I have a droid turbo. On the new version of Android, when I am on a call and I then go to the menu to look at something while still on the call the person can no longer hear me on the call until I go back to the actual phone call. I never had that problem before on the old Android. How do I change that where I can still talk on the phone and go to my menu and look at what I need to.

We certainly don't want to interrupt your calls while using your Turbo. When you go to the menu does the phone display on the screen or in the notifications that the phone is muted by chance? Do you see the mute option while on a call? Does the same thing happen when using speakerphone or headphones/Bluetooth?
