adding a line without losing unlimited on my other lines

I have two smartphones on grandfathered unlimited plans.  I want to add a line for my son who's starting Jr High with an old iPhone 4 but just calls and texts.  Can I do this without losing my unlimited data?  I saw somewhere on this site you could do it a few months back but wasn't ready to start his service.  now I can't find the mention.

I believe you still can add a line with the old plan - but it will cost $9.99/month for the added line and $30/month for data.  Although you say you only want it for texts and calls, an iPhone is a smartphone and requires the data plan.  If you only want calls and texts, add a basic phone.  It will still be $9.99 to add the line, but there will be no data plan requirement.

If you still want to add the iPhone, look at your actual data usage for your other two phones - and check the costs of More Everything with the amount of data you use, and factor in the line discounts for out of contract phones (which you must have, since you are still on the grandfathered data).  You may find More Everything to be substantially lower in cost, with unlimited texts and calls, hotspot included, and a data bucket that fits your actual use.  With two basic, 2 smartphones, and a tablet, we are paying $100 less a month than with the old Nationwide unlimited data plan and 1400 shared minutes.  It makes sense to compare.
