When can we expect an Android OS update for stagefright vulnerability? Galaxy S5 and S6
Verizon cares, but must have the patch from the manufacturer first who gets it from Google.
When the manufacture releases the patch
This may not be entirely true if you got your phone through Verizon. They control the release of code to phones under their control. I expect them to release it once they get it but they still vet the code.

May want to follow this thread. If it get's bumped enough it will remain a hot topic. Will Verizon release a patch for the recently announced vulnerability of Android phones to hacking via text?

Here'a some more info. Some of it is piggybacking the 1st link i posted. Some of it isn't.

Per the attached: http://motherboard.vice.com/read/goodbye-android?utm_Source=vicefbus, Google has prepared patches and sent them to manufacturers, so the question is, as it often is, when can we expect the patch from Verizon?
I too am waiting for guidance. Verizon please take note - and I'm sure someone there is watching this and other threads on the subject: If this breaks bad and the phones of thousands & thousands of customers wind up being hacked because you dragged your feet and did nothing about a threat your developers have known about since April the press coverage will not be good to your company image.
Have you seen this article from Avast? Avast blog » Big Brother(s) Could be Watching You Thanks to Stagefright
There's no time to waste on this. Now that knowledge of the vulnerability has exploded, it won't take long before we start seeing cases of hacks. (So far, no known user hacks have occured.)
Google has provided patches. Now it's up to Verizon to distribute them. Even if it's a stand-alone patch, it needs to get pushed out ASAP.
I'm going to call them, even though I know what they'll tell me. If we start clogging up the support lines, hopefully it'll let them know their cust base really cares about this.
Or, you could call the manufacturer of the device, since it's up to them.
Actually, that's not how it works. With Verizon, at least, system updates come from Verizon once they've been reviewed or tested or something which is frequently months after Google has released them.
Also Verizon is NOT a manufacturer. They are a distributor if anything. Manufacturers have to test the patch against their devices then push them out. No manufacturer to date has pushed out a fix. Also Google only patched 1 of their devices which is the Nexus 6 Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 are vulnerable.
Hello Verizon? Anyone there care to demonstrate that you even care about this issue??
We appreciate Google’s leadership in addressing the potential issue with security of the Android operating system. Our customers deserve the very best protection possible, so we’ll continue working with Google and handset makers to ensure that any security patches are available as soon as they’re fully tested and approved.
Thanks, Carol. Can you give us an ETA please?
could you please answer the question? WHEN CAN WE EXPECT OS UPDATES FOR STAGEFRIGHT VULNERABILITY?
This isn't some minor update that you can drag your feet on. This is serious and it would be nice to know if VZW is giving it the attention it deserves
Sprint is getting their updates out: Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S5 and Note Edge receiving Stagefright fixes from Sprint | Android Central . So is AT&T: http://www.droid-life.com/2015/08/05/att-pushing-stagefright-update-to-galaxy-s5-galaxy-note-4-and-others/ .
Hopefully VZW doesn't drag too long on this.
ATT, Sprint, and tMobile have ALREADY patched this vulnerability in their Samsung phones! I called VZW today and tech support got flummoxed and transferred me to Samsung. Samsung guy acted like he never heard of any google update to pass along. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN PASSED ALONG AS UPDATE FROM EVERY MAJOR CARRIER EXCEPT VERIZON! Come on VZW. We pay the MOST $. How about the courtesy of an extimate of when ota is coming out? How about an email telling us best ways to avoid this virus? How about an app to check for and if needed get rid of the virus? How about the courtesy of an answer?
I have repeatedly called a Verizon tech guy who has helped me in the past; no response for over a week. I am disabling pre-fetching MMS messages on all our phones, but the hack can still happen until the patch is out.
Is this your incentive to root our phones, VWZ??
Actually, there are several apps to check for the vulnerability in the Google Play store. I'm using this one:
Stagefright Detector - Android Apps on Google Play
check your S5 for an OTA today. My Note 4 just got the stagefright exploit patch this morning and I heard the Note Edge and S5 were also receiving it today as well.
How about the note 3?

good question bro, I haven't heard anything about the Note 3 stagefright update yet, but I'd imagine it will be soon! Samsung is really getting this patch pushed out before other OEM's!
Got my update today on a Samsung Note 4; nothing yet on some Motorola Mini's also registered with our account. The Lookout app confirms that my Note 4 is fixed (see above), so I recommend it to others. I have a Note 3 but it is offline, so updates don't work ... can't check it.
No love for Note 3? Come on big red. This is very poor.

Would someone from Verizon please answer? Do they ever?
Just got the latest Security Patch for my S6. Ran two Stagefright detctor programs, and the vulnerability still exists. What the heck Verizon? This issue was discovered last April.
Same here - just updated S6 with G920VVRU4BOG7 today (Sep 29) and three different detectors still say it's there.
Zimperium's Stagefright Detector tells which ones are there and which are cleared. It shows CVE-2015-3864 is still in the red as vulnerable.
Please, Verizon - please send the fix for this!
