how do you get a text address that automatically links to a google map or any kind of map

I use Google Maps almost everyday myself, so I know how important that application is. I want to make sure we are both on the same page, when you are referring to a text address, do you mind providing a little bit more detail for me? what i am saying is if i need to go to a place i am not familiar with (ie my nephew was having a party at his house on christmas eve and i forgot where he lived so he texted me his address) the address come in but there was not a link (blue hightlight address) he said all i had to do was put my thumb or finger on the link and it should have shown a map for directions but it come in black (in other words no link) this might be only on iphones which he has but i cant believe android doesnt have this option is there an app or what is happening i have a new droid maxx 2 which is pretty up to date. bud
