New S-5 Data overage

I just replaced a defective S-5 with a new S-5. After about a week I started getting data alert messages. I use less than A Gig a month normally, but since I activated this phone I have used almost 2 Gig. It seems to be downloading updates to software and apps continuously. I have tried to have it connected to wifi most of the time. Shouldn't a new phone from Verizon have the latest updates already installed or at least most of them?

How do I kill a bunch of these apps that I don't want or need. When I try to delete or uninstall I am told they will be replaced with the original factory default apps. I just want them gone because they seem to update continuously and I don't need them.

We can help out with this. New phones come straight from the manufacturer and need all updates. You can set your applications to update over WiFi only. Go to Play Store - then Settings on the upper left ( three  lines) tap on Settings - tap Auto-update then choose Auto update over WiFi. You want your apps to update each week so they do not crash.

To close your applications, press to the left of the home key, it will bring up task manager, to the right it will say close all.
