Voice roaming?

Recently I switched from a Galaxy... Like the very first one, to a Droid RAZR Maxx on the $45 a mont plan. I'm currently out of town which is where this question stems from. While travelling through WV and parts of MD my phone went from Verizon's service area to a "voice roaming" setting that I'd never heard of before. I tried to turn off roaming but that didn't work and I tried to force stop the application but that failed as well. According to the service coverage maps i'm well within an area that should have Verizon service and yet i'm still getting the voice roaming notification. I've taken this trip for the past 15 years and never had a problem with any service except for in the mountains and by now I'd be back to regular service. My question is what does voice roaming affect? Just calls or texts as well? And how can I turn it off or when should it go away? Multiple forums have people mentioning he same problem to no avail (switching aim cards and phones). I'd really like some help since i'm out of town. Thanks.

Is this Prepaid or Postpaid? 4G coverage will vary a tad between the 2 services and the originla Galaxy was not a 4G phone like the DRMaxx is.

It's the $45 plan with the unlimited talk and text with one gig of data. Does that mean the service might be different and that I should just wait until I get into a big city tomorrow and see what happens before calling customer service?

The coverage is only slightly different really. WV and MD do have slightly different post vs pre paid coverage. Most mountainous areas do. I would suggest going auto pay and getting the bonus 1GB data. I use an LG G2 and have no issues.

I can understand how this would be a concern for you Tmontgo8.IF you're close to an international tower, you phone may pick up that signal and may display roaming. We update service all the time in areas throughout the U.S. Is your software updated ? You can check here for updates http://vz.to/16I8zXJ .

You can disable roaming on your Razr Maxx device by selecting Apps > Settings > More > Mobile Networks >Global data roaming access > Deny data roaming access.

I tried to manually update when I switched to this phone 3 days ago and it says everything is up to date and I've gotten no automated notifaction about a new update. The phone is already set to deny the data roaming acces , as that was something I researched in an attempt to solve the issue and yet the "voice roaming" notification still remains.

You can disable roaming but keep in mind that, unless you have more than a $0 balance, you won't be able to make calls/texts or receive calls/texts. Data is not charged when roaming as that has a hard cap of 1GB (2GB autopay.) If you keep a balance in the account, you can make calls and texts back and forth for .20-.25 cents each. That's the great thing about prepaid...no overages.

Is this notification visual or auditory? Like does the phone speak "Verizon Wireless" when you gain or lose signal or roam?

It's a visual notification. A small white triangle up near where the signal bars are located. I have an account balance but the amount I send and receive texts would diminish it within a day. Right now the phone's in airplane mode so I can at least use it for other methods of communication.

What's odd is that if I reset the SIM card (remove it and then replace it) no roaming appears for about 10 seconds and there's 2 to 3 bars of service but then it transfers to roaming with full service... Could it be the SIM card?
