Galaxy s5 WiFi killing data

My phone received an update last week, and I'm running on android 5.0. Since then, when I'm on WiFi, it automatically turns off my data. If I turn off my WiFi, data comes right back. This is usually not an issue, except that multimedia messages and photo texts will not come through. The system ends up eating them, and I can't access them at all.

After attempting every setting I could think of, I contacted Verizon support. Their only suggestion was a factory reset. Dreading that, I first wiped my cache, to no effect. Finally, I did the factory reset, but it didn't fix the issue.

Has anyone else dealt with this or know of a hidden setting I'm not seeing?

We don't want you missing out on any multimedia messages, Naqahdahnellie. Normally multimedia messages will download once the cellular data connection has been restored. But from what I've gathered, this doesn't appear to be your experience. Is that correct? Please try checking the following Settings>WiFi>Menu>Advanced, is Smart network switch enabled?

Enabling smart network switch allows my picture messages to download, but I'm still showing a greyed out 1X for my data connection while on the WiFi instead of my normal 3G.

I'm glad you are now able to receive your messages, Naqahdahnellie. What you are seeing is normal when connected to WiFi. Although the cellular connection is active in the background, the icon will appear grey. This allows you to see that WiFi is in use and the cellular data will only be used for items such as multimedia messages. When you disable WiFi, does the 1X return to your normal 3G/4G?

When I disable WiFi, the 3G pops up. When I turn on WiFi, it reverts back

to 1X. My husband's Note stays on 3G, and does not revert to 1X.

I have a S5 on 5.0. It also recently had a subsequent small update since 5.0. WiFi does not turn off this phone's data. Both Wifi and Data indicators stay lit even when WiFi is indicating an exchange of data. Perhaps a setting?

The plot thickens. I've now determined that calls are not coming through while I'm on the wi-fi either. I just get a message that I have a voicemail, but no missed call or any indication that I ever received a call.

We want to ensure your calls are coming through successfully Naqahdahnellie. When did you notice the calls stop coming through when in WiFi? Have you verified Airplane Mode is disabled on the phone as well as the Do Not Disturb function? Do calls stop coming through everytime you connect to WiFi?

Do not disturb and airplane mode are both turned off.

I have WiFi as well as a network extender. It might be the interaction of

the two. When I'm on WiFi in town, it seems my data and calls function

properly. When I turn off my WiFi here at the house, and remain on the

extender, data and calls function properly. When I turn my WiFi back on, my

data drops to 1x, and my calls are only coming through as voice mail. I'm

receiving calls fine in town on the regular cellular network. When I unplug

the extender, my data jumps back to 3g, even with WiFi, but our reception

in the house is ridiculously low, so that's not an option.

What makes no sense is that I've been on this setup for 2 years, used this

phone in this setup since Dec, and my husband's note is still functioning

perfectly on it. I never had a problem until I put on the update last week.

I appreciate the all the details provided Naqahdhnellie. This will help us get to the bottom of your service concerns. It definitely sounds like the Network Extender may have something to do with your calls going to voicemail. I understand this has always worked ok in the past. Did you make any recent changes to your equipment or the network extender? Any third party apps or software updates?
