Does it use a lot of data to use the vz protect app?
Not really sure how much data it uses however I would disable or remove it (if you can) and use something along the lines of Lookout Mobile Security, or Avast, or AVG as they are the experts in this area.
The VZW protect app will also send you pop up ads saying your system was modified, when in fact it never was. It's a ploy to get you to buy the full version features.
