Verizon is adding $20/ month for (grandfathered) unlimited data

1% of how many? I imagine it will generate quite a bit of money. Enough to cover all the data unlimited data users use. Though I agree, they would rather have you on the newer plans and if they can't do they, they want more $$.

To add: In the piece that I'm adding it says you can sign a contract for a ( year or two ) but why would you want to do this unless you new for sure you could do with a purchase of a NEW device and you could keep your current plan some where this new Deal Verizon is wheeling out has a smell to it sorry for being Frank but if they want ya out something one way or another there going to make it happen just like when they where going to throttle Unlimited customers but backed off when At&t got slapped with the HUGE fine from the FCC they dropped it for the most part but it's still out there.

The notification was in the form of message when I logged into my account this evening, then confirmed by CSR , in Chat. Ensure NETWORK integrity, my happy [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service] I plan on getting my $20 worth.... I'll stream every movie/ song/ youtube chanel I can, even if I'm not watching or listening.... For someone that will call me a data hog, so be it. My average useage forever has been approx. 3 Gb, but have gone over 10Gb twice in 10 years. I'll see if I can average about 20Gb from here on out. Well it is True this is going to happen tomorrow for us Unlimited customers I found this out just a little bit ago from a Rep that I've known for years she even said I could mention her Name but I'll hold off on doing that but she's even being hit with this Increase even though she's Employee with the company she has 3 Unlimited Lines all of which will be hit with the Increase she said although she is steamed about it and said she say it even if a Manager was setting right next to her there not going to take my Darn Unlimited away from me I'll pay the extra I'll pay to buy a new phone.. what ever it takes to keep my Unlimited I'm going Keep it" she said..

But this is going to Happen and she does not know any way around of it.. like signing up for a new CONTRACT.! The Plan will go into affect Tomorrow 11/15/2015 just before the Christmas Season gets a going.. she said Tis the Season..

She has the Verizon Employee discount plan. My employee discount offers 20% off on data so I'm sure Verizon employees get a huge Verizon discount with their plans. If my bill is going from $55 to $75. I'm sure she's probably paying less then us.

This didn't even work on the 15th and now I sent 45 minutes yesterday to find out that in the article I read they were going to let grandfather accounts be able to purchase new phones on a payment plan not the truth. When the store person tried to put in the phone purchase and it prompted them to change our plan. So I walked out and didn't purchase anything.

I wouldn't trust anything a live verizon rep says. I don't even bother speaking to a live person unless it's absolutely necessary because they would sabotage your UDP any chance they get. I would wait another month and try again online rather than dealing with dishonest reps. Verizon did state that grandfathered plans would be able to purchase new phones on payment plans without losing your UDP but lack the details on how to go about it. Give it some time and maybe someone will figure it out and post it here one day. BTW did you get hit with the $20 yet? I think I know how to legally avoid this price hike but I'm gonna wait to see if it works and then reveal the secret.

You're not in contract so Verizon is not legally bound to keep the price the same. They could hike it up $50 if they wanted and you could either pay it or change plans.

So from what I understand after speaking to multiple Verizon in store Reps and custom support Reps via phone, you must wait this your billing cycle ends after Nov 15th to see the price increase and then you can take part in the device payment plan. So my billing cycle ends Nov 18th. I was told I would see the $20 price increase on my next billing cycle for my UDP and on the 19th I could get a new phone via device payment plan. Even after your monthly billing cycle has ended you cannot take part in the device payment plan. I have been attempting to since the start of the new cycle on the 21st. Ill be posting my results and sending it to news outlets. The info provided was wrong! They are forcing you to dump your unlimited data as of today on their website. Oh and one of the chat reps told me I needed to do it only on the first of my billing cycle to keep unlimited data. Im going to be posting a blog post later today after I can do one more chat with a representative via the phone. But at this point as of today you have to pay full price for the phone even with the $20 added fee.

Well here's how I look at it, I'm not a Heavy user but what Data I see that I've used shows me that I still like my Unlimited $20.00 bucks or not.. And by the way have you Looked at what $20.00 any more Buys in some Case not much it cost you more to go to Starbucks for a Cup of Joe to eat out if you have a Family this is @ McDonald's is more than $20.00 I was pricing Candy for Trick or Treat my cheapest I could find was $10.00 so unless this $20.00 increase is really going to make for a Bad Hair Day.. I wouldn't sweat it if you have more than one line say three drop em back to 2 or Down to 1 then maybe consider going on t with the Device Payment plan 2 or 3 Line, but don't give up your Unlimited unless it's really a have to case or a Financial Burden... then Drop em I'm keeping the one I have and it's an ole Altell smart choice 500 Plan..

How come I haven't received a notice about the price increase? I called before November 15 and they told me that my price would increase on my bill that closed on the 19th but when the 20th rolled around and nothing happened, I called back and now they are saying goes that I will see the increase after my next full bill after the 15th of Nov. So, Dec. 20 the price increase should take effect. I have yet to get a notice about this, which is annoying. And the story of the price increase timeliness keeps changing. I do have an employee discount on my current plan and am not in contract on any of my lines.

If your bill cycles on the 19th, the increase should have been on the bill generated on November 19th. The notification was in the October bill.

For example, I got the notification on my October 16th bill. The November bill had the price increase.

So what does it mean if I never got a notice and my November bill and current plan is still the exact same price? $29.99 for unlimited data, less my work discount. Verizon told me I may have to wait til next statement but it just seems like they keep changing the story every time I call. And here it is November 26 and I still don't have a notice that my price is going up except from reading about it online, I wouldn't have known.

i log in before my billing cycle ended and the offer was there plus i got the notice of the 20.00 increase by email. i am going into the store tomorrow to upgrade my phone so hopefully things are in place finally.

Do you have an old Alltel plan? I have read certain Alltel plans are not affected by the price increase.

There have been many "unlimited" plans that VZW has had over the years. My plan was $20 and it included unlimited data and 2000 text messages. It never went up to $30 and I never got a notification from VZW that the price was going to increase. There have been other people with other "unlimited" data plans that say they've seen notifications on their bills that the price on their data plan would increase. My guess is that they've only increased the price on some of their "unlimited data" SKUs, but not on all (yet.)

This is True as Our Unlimited plan was not affected.. I found out it has something to do with structure of the plan and getting around what ever that means to charge the Plan maybe it's because of the Age of the Plan or because of being an ole Alltel one but the Rep. said if they can find a loop around to then charge the account it will possible follow the ones that are being charged Now.. Only Time will Tell..

I myself was with Alltel since 2004 and into the switch to Verizon. My plan isn't even offered anymore and doesn't have a separation of monthly access and data. I have the friends and family s/p 500 and now they want to raise it $20 to keep the same service. I use on average about 40gb a month and switching to any other plan I would have had to pay double on Verizon. Its horrible for a company to treat a loyal customer who has been with them for over 10 years this way, extremely disappointed in this company and will definitely be leaving once the price changes.

I read initially that customers with an Alltel plan weren't being affected by the price increase at least at this time. I don't recall where I read it though.

I don't hear anyone addressing (those who the tiered plans) the fact that their min/text plan has gone done nearly 80% while unlimited data customers plans have stayed the same. Unlimited data customers unless you are paying the $90 a month do not have unlimited talk and text. Unlimited customers don't get to share data unless we pay an additional $10-$30 a month. Most of you are paying $20-$40 for unlimited talk and text.

Unlimited data customers were never getting away with paying Verizon any less money than you are. Verizon lowered the cost of talk and text for all of those on tiered plans and most of us did not even complain. We understood that this was the cost of having unlimited data.

While a lot of you are saying how the cost of data has gone up, why are you not also saying the cost to provide talk coverage has gone down....yet we are still being charged at the rates from 5-10 years ago?????

This price hike is not fair. On the opposite end of unlimited customers bill we have not seen our rates lowered and no one is speaking on that. So while all of you are saving by paying less for the talk and text portion of your bill while paying more for your data....unlimited customers have simply been doing the opposite for years without any complaints.

No matter how you try to slice this IT IS A UNFAIR PRICE INCREASE. It is almost discriminatory, and I do hope someone files a suit. If our bills on data are going to go up 66% then cut the other half of our bill in half some percentage like it has been done for all those on the tiered plan.

I totally disagree. I have always been one step ahead of Verizon for almost for years. You need to start thinking outside the box and stop complaining. It is what it is and if you feel the price hike is unfair then go to AT&T or T-Mobile or worse yet Sprint and you'll realize how good we really have it. We are like unicorns that are being hunted down with our Unlimited no throttle data plan. s I have been paying $58.28 with only nationwide 300. How do I manage my plan with 300minutes and 250 text with iphone 6plus? I use my unlimited data for VOIP APPS AND FREE TEXT APPS. There are hundreds of apps offering free voice and text plans all over the app store if you do a search. Data is the one commodity that everyone must use and pay a premium except for the lucky few who still retain the data plan. The price hike didn't affect my plan because I joined a employee discount plan that reduced my voice and data by 20%. If you are unemployed than use the customer loyalty discount to get 8% off your bill every month.

I also moved to Las Vegas and I get the benefit of being taxed 1.7%. I pay $.78 is total taxes every month. Stop complaining and start thinking outside the box because there are solutions for everything Verizon throws at us. Don't waste your time filing lawsuits because that's just stupid.I have never heard of anyone winning a lawsuit where verizon has paid them millions because they felt cheated. Your point is actually null and void. I was comparing an unlimited talk and text plan which is what tiered data customers get because they "pay more" for data . In your comparison be realistic people aren't moving across the country to pay less taxes. 2. Verizon is very hip to such technology as are most people which is why that portion of the bill has gone down so drastically. I am hip to employer benefits, I have had it for over 5 years. It's nothing special. I'm not sure who you work for but 20% is a pretty hefty discount. (Good for you)

My bill still went up with this $20.00 hike. $59.99 I believe is the cost of the nationwide plan with 450 mins and unlimited text. So you are not getting some great deal.

Data is what is in demand and Verizon is finding a way to pad their pockets by trying to make customers with unlimited plans bills so ridiculous that they switch to the tiered plan.

Look I'm trying to help you here. I dunno what plan you have but you can change your plan to lower prices. I have 300 minutes for $34.99 and 20% employee discount dropping to $27.99 and Unlimited data is $29.99 and with the price hike is $49.99 plus 20% employee discount dropping it down. If you're getting ripped off with high prices that's on you. You never mentioned this.

Especially from a technology company. It wasn't that long ago that 500 minutes was $50. And some parents used to see $10,000 phone bills for their teens' text messaging. Now, unlimited voice and texting is included in a very cheap plan.

Of course, they could have taken it away all together and had you paying the same price for data that everyone else pays which is MORE expensive than your unlimited data even WITH the price increase. Unless, of course, you don't use much data and don't really need unlimited which for some unknown reason I still see people doing.

I'm all for people holding onto their unlimited data if they feel a need and MANY people DO have a need to keep their unlimited data. For those people, unlimited data is STILL a bargain even with the price increase.

My biggest gripe is 2 lines = $40. Then Verizon has made sure 3rd party hot spot apps do not work. So, if I want to use my unlimited data the way I want, I also have to buy into their hot spot plan at $30 per month. The total outlay is an additional $70 per month. Why has Verizon decided to ensure 3rd party apps will not work and allow me to use my data how I want? Please Don't mention the tree/ ground connection as a possibility, or our friendly mods will delete any post with that words. Google/ Android has no gain or loss by blocking 3rd party apps, therefore its Verizon tinkering with an otherwise good OS.

They just do that for profit, because they're only allowed to block usage of third party hotspot apps on the unlimited plans, and not on tiered usage plans since they got in trouble with the FCC for doing it on those plans also.
