can I add a sound to the default notification sounds

I can access my notification sounds through my settings, but I am trying to see how I can move a sound from a music file folder to my default notifications folder. I can not seem to find it in the phone or tethered through my computer and searching my files themselves for the notifications folder. Can anyone help? I am able to move it to my ringtones, but I want to add a new notification sound. Thanks

What phone do you have?  On the Droid Turbo, there is a Notifications folder... there's also a media folder, and within that is audio -->notifications.

On the Galaxy S6, there's an audio folder with all the notification sounds in it.  Use a file explorer app to see what folders are on the phone, and just poke around until you see the notifications files.
