I bought my Droid Turbo from Best Buy. Apparently it is a special edition phone. I don't know if it is a special edition because I bought it at Best Buy or because its blue. Verizon will not replace the screen on this phone because its a special edition. I would have to go through Motorola to get the screen replaced. They have 2 options. Option #1. I can put down a $500 deposit and pay $24.99 fee to Motorola. Then they will send me a replacement. I will then send them my old phone with the return label they provide. 10 days after they receive, inspect and process my old phone they will return my deposit. As long as there is no physical damage beyond normal wear and tear or water damage. My problem with this option is that I can't get a clear definition of what is normal wear and tear. I will not put down a $500 deposit just for them to tell me that they found a scuff on one of the corners and won't be returning my deposit.
Option #2. I can print out a shipping label and ship them my phone. They will process and inspect it and if they determine its in acceptable condition they will ship me a replacement. I've been told my Motorola that this process will leave me without a phone for 8-14 days. I cannot be without a phone for even 1 day. My wife is 9 days away from her due date and I work out of town. This option is not acceptable to me either.
The only reason I've been trying to replace this phone is because I updated to the lollipop system last Wednesday. Since then it has crashed numerous times and is useless for hours every time it happens. Even though the screen has been cracked since February and has nothing to do with the lollipop system crashing, Verizon will not replace the phone for the software malfunctions because of the cracked screen. Then they won't replace the cracked screen because its apparently a special edition phone. I would expect the company that hasn't had a problem accepting my payments for the last 6+ years to be a little more helpful with this situation.
I guess I've also got a third option. That would be to terminate my Verizon contract and buy an iPhone. Then I can get away from Verizon and Motorola. Two birds, one stone.
