How do I turn off sound notifications for texts but on for phone calls on an iPhone 5c?

I've discovered there's no way on an iPhone to send an auto-reply to texts to encourage folks to wait for a response (such as when driving) or know you will respond later (when you are just busy). I want to know how to turn off constant sounds of incoming texts while keeping my sound active for phone calls audio app alerts that remind me of important upcoming appointments. Suggestions?

technoo-virgin, turning off your notification couldn't be easier. Go to settings>sounds>text tone. You would need to change your text tone or other notification to silent. You would need to manually change it if you want to hear a ringer for this function.
