Is there any truth to the story of Verizon changing the charge to $49.99 on the grandfathered Unlimited data plans? If so when does this really take effect?
We'll know how true it is when we receive letters in the mail on the change. But allegedly it will begin around November 15th if I remember correctly.
Yes its true. It will take effect 11/15/14 to a prior notice on 10/15/15.
This will apply to thise on a month to month plan. If you are on a 2 year contract tou are safe until it ends. Corporate, government, and alltel plans are immune to this change.
This $20 hike is bs but im still keeping my unlimited. Tether your 4g from your phone using foxfi if your phone is supported and not blocked. Lower your home internet bill and offset the cost. Good luck.
File a complaint with the FCC and FTC for deceptive business practices. Verizon was telling you that you can keep a plan if you pay full price for phone($0-200 versus $650-950) then raising data cost 66% after they have tricked you into phones that will only work on Verizon and multiple sales reps have confirmed that you can keep same plan until you choose to change to new plans. I am going to file FCC/FTC/BBB/AG complaints and there needs to be more people for them to take notice, and it is pretty easy to file.
If you are out of contract then there is no price guarantee. At that point as long as you pay you get service and stay on the same plan as you have been on. Price is not part of that after contract.
While this may be legally gray, ethically it is completely deceptive to tell consumers the can ‘keep’ something then almost double the price after they have committed to equipment.
They did keep unlimited data. They never said you could keep your rate.
This price increase is BS. If it weren't for the fact that VZW is the only thing that works decent around here, and my company discount, I would be dropping my service, and looking elsewhere. Tired of VZW's greed and total disregard for its long time customers.
Considering that I still haven't gotten any notification from VZW - and 15 Nov is now less than 30 days away, I can't see this as the absolute date. Now maybe those people with billing cycles starting on the 15 are being notified and I'll be notified later this month - which means that the new price won't start for me until later next month.
Of course, since VZW won't have the new Windows 10 devices, I'm switching anyways....
Best wishes at your new carrier which won't have unlimited data.
"Best wishes" Who the heck are you to be a smart*** to someone you don't know? New carrier will be cheaper and have unlimited data. Adding $20 to every phone in my family was a huge corporate mistake. Pherson you are vagina. Just fyi.
They don't have "unlimited" per say. If you use over a certain amount they set your priority to 0 and if anyone is set higher you bandwidth slow down. This is something Verizon doesn't and can't do. Good luck at your next carrier and hope they have the coverage you need.
Additionally. No one really needs cell phones. It's a convenience.
That's great if you are able to get truly unlimited data with another provider for less. Makes this price increase a positive. But you do need to make sure you read the fine print for the unlimited plan with the new provider. Sometimes it's unlimited for mostly slow speeds after a small amount of high speed data...and for some that may be a deal breaker. But for those that it doesn't bother then it's absolutely the way to go.
Verizon's Arrogance losing them another loyal customer! They claim that they put notice on the statement, but I pay electronic and don't see the statements. They text me about everything else and could have easily texted for this. However, I would not have thought it meant me because I am on a two year commitment. When I called they say the commitment does not cover the data plan, but if I cancel I pay a termination fee??? They want it both ways. Either you are on a contract or not! I did not upgrade my phone because I did not want to lose my unlimited plan. Now the only thing they have available is a 2GB plan for the Same Price and overage charges. They are counting on them. I am of course furious and will change companies very soon. A 70% increase is unacceptable! And it is not even great service. I guess they do not care about 20+ year customers. I was told that we are only 1% of their business and they don't care. I will gladly take my $2,500 a year to another provider.
So [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service].
Went from two older phones on unlimited to 2 more new ones for my kids to be on a family plan since they jacked our data package up...
This [removal required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service]. My boy used 2 gigs by himself this evening looking at YouTube in the car...
They need to give us a lot more data for [removed] us out of the bushes limited data plan... 15+ year loyalty meant [removed] to them..

For what?

Why you can't sue your wireless carrier in a class action - CNET
For a price increase they are entirely allowed to make?
PLease, ask a lawyer if you have a case.......
You are not under contract, so you can quit Verizon if you don't like the price.
I added 2 new phones and am on a fan plan with 20+ gigs of data... But my god, my son can no longer watch YouTube on his long commute to school on his new phone...
I miss my unlimited...
