Can I put a new prepaid HTC Desire 626 on my postpaid account?

I want to add my boyfriend to my account and get him a phone, and after looking at a ton of different phones I have decided that the HTC Desire 626 would suit his needs the best, but it's a prepaid phone. So I want to know if I will be able to put it on my account or if I have to have it activated for the 6 months before I can put in on my account. I know it's a 4G LTE phone, but I keep reading contradicting answers as to if I would be able to add it to my account right away.
