When is Droid Mini getting an update?

I know this has been asked over and over. When is dorid Mini getting update? Verizon reps have said they are waiting on Motorola and Motorola said its up to Verizon.. SO who is correct? For an "Exclusive" product there doesn't seem to be much support.

There is no word on a soak test. Since there is no soak test it's Motorola. They ALWAYS do a soak test prior to submitting anything to any carrier. Also Motorola has been sold off twice so support for a lot of their products are still up in the air. Lenovo laid off some few thousands of workers after the buyout.

All Droid products are Verizon branded devices meaning Verizon decides when to roll out the updates. For example, The Nexus 5x, 6p and Moto X Pure are already running 6.x

There are obviously pros and cons to using non-carrier specific phones but that's far too much to go in depth on here.

Learn Motorola's update process. Verizon doesn't touch the code and the manufacturers write it. Until they finish carriers can't test it and send it back. Motorola always does a controlled soak test prior to submitting to carriers. If this hasn't happened Motorola has not submitted a thing. See Droid Turbo, Moto (2013, 2014, 2015), and Droid Turbo 2 for example.

Also don't bring up Nexus devices. Those devices are only made for Google and no one else. Why do you think there is no manufacturer branding? Google controls every aspect of those devices and only rely on partners for drivers.

The carrier does write some of the code and drivers specifically for devices on their network. This is to enable/disable specific features such as wifi calling and such. The BASE code comes from the vendor but Verizon then does their own dev, test, qa, and soak before releasing to prod slowly.

Look at most any phone that is not carrier branded and youll see they are already getting M or are running it currently. The process of releasing the code for non carrier phones is much more simple.

Reread what I said VERY closely. The stuff that you are talking about. Verizon gives it in advance and Motorola implement them. Testing doesn't happen until AFTER Motorola submits something. That hasn't happened as there is not soak test which Motorola DOES PRIOR to submitting an update to carriers which has been proven countless times. I have done soak tests for the Motorola Droid Turbo and Also the Moto X 2014. Do a Google search for Motorola soak test and you'll see what I am talking about. Then show me where Motorola has done a soak test for the Mini. Verizon can't tell you when because they have no idea WHEN Motorola will be finished with their end.

Unbranded phones get updated first because Rules and agreements are different and require less coding. Also manufacturers are on the hook on their own and can't hide behind a carrier and act all innocent. To this day people like you believe carriers has all this power. Samsung for example could pull its weight like Apple, but why don't they? Simple because these deals give more overhead to them where they can sell less devices and break a profit quicker. Instead of selling 10M devices to break a profit they just need to sell 5M for example.

Wait...Droid Mini update? Moto only states Lollipop. I doubt it updates to 6.0.

Motorola is the one for the blame. Verizon has absolutely no information but if you call them and ask them to try to push it out maybe that will work. I have a Droid Mini I recently got and I was expecting it would be on Lollipop considering Android Lollipop is a year old. Buy the new Droid Turbo 2 so in the future Motorola can clean up the crap and you'll be fine!
