I feel tricked by Verizon

I researched the new "My Verizon Plan" online and it looked like a decent deal which yielded me a little more data on my plan. I switched to this awful plan from my "Share Everything Plan" online. BUT, what they don't make clear ANYWHERE is that by switching to this new plan is that I lose the ability to get 2 year contract pricing on any more phones FOREVER!! This forces people to go to this crap of paying retail pricing for new phones and spreading the payments over 2 years. This is a HUGE disadvantage to people like me who like to take advantage of $1 or free phone deals offered by Best Buy or Walmart or whomever. It probably works out close to the same to those who pay $199 for a phone and then pay 2 year contract pricing. BUT for people like me its a complete ripoff!! I called Verizon and they informed me that I can no longer do the 2 year contract pricing but I could switch back to the "More Everything" plan I had before BUT it's now $20 more per month for that plan. So in the end if I go back to the way it was I have to pay $20 more per monthfor EXACTLY what I had. After being with Verizon for since 1997 I'm forced to look at other companies because Verizon seems to be shoving more and more crap down our throats.....

You need to look at the total cost of the phone and plan. Depending on the phone you want to purchase, paying full retail price over 24 months and the $20 line access fee for 2 years is actually less expensive than the two year contract price plus the higher $40 line access fee over 2 years.

most of carriers does not offer two year contract .....either you buy device or bring your own device or do payment plan for device ....T-Mobile, at&t, sprint ,Verizon

Actually, the difference in what you pay in a contract over 2 years is $150-200 more than if you pay retail price only with device payments.

NO phone purchase made at full retail price either up front or with payments will EVER be more expensive than purchasing a contract phone.

Lines STILL under contract on the Verizon plan will pay a $40 line access fee compared to a $20 line access fee for line NOT under contract. To make that a bit more understandable how it is less expensive than a contract phone, it would equate to a $20 line access fee AND a $20 phone payment. ADD that $20/month phone payment to whatever amount you pay up front for the contract phone and THAT is what you are ACTUALLY paying for the phone. Over the 2 yr life of your contract, that $20/month phone payment ADDED to your up front cost of a contract phone, lets say a $650 16 GB iPhone 6S with a contract price of $200 and you are ACTUALLY paying $200 PLUS $480($20 x 24 months = $480) or $680. So how, exactly, is paying FULL PRICE of $650 LESS EXPENSIVE than the $680 you would pay for the contract phone??????

You may say but your MONTHLY payment goes up when you purchase a full retail cost phone on payments. That is ONLY true if you CHOOSE not to make the same up front payment as you would make when purchasing a contract phone. That contract iPhone 6S has an UP FRONT cost of $200. Simply take that same $200 and place it as a down payment towards your full retail cost phone. THEN your payments would NOW be ($650 - $200 = $450) $450/24 = $18.75/month INSTEAD of the $20 in extra line access fees you would be paying with a contract phone. That is $1.25/month LESS than the contract phone.:smileyhappy:

You have to take into account ALL of your expenses with BOTH the contract phone AND the full retail cost phone. You can't just disregard the up front cost of the contract phone which the full retail cost phone does not require if you are comparing the 2 methods of purchase.:smileyhappy:

Maybe I didn't make myself clear enough for you. I DO NOT pay FULL price. I get them when Best Buy or Walmart offers them for free or maybe $1. Then if pay $20 more per month x 24 months for contract prices which means I pay $480 for a phone that retails for $599 or $699. But that's beside my point in the first place. I think they should make it VERY clear that by switching plans I would lose that ability to get contract phones and would never have been kicked off that type of plan. Kind of like when there was unlimited data and they allowed people to keep that forever unless they change plans. Had I been INFORMED then I would not have made that choice.I had the 10 GB Share Everything plan for $80/month + $40 pper line x 4 which =$240. NOW it's $100/month + $40 perline which = $260. They refuse to give me what I had before so just because of the principle of this makes me want to see what it's like on the "other side." Maybe I'll be back, maybe I won't.....

Back in the 90's carriers in a class action lawsuit admitted bundling costs of the device into the plan to recoup the costs. So doesn't matter you ALWAYS paid full price for the phone. Just now it's more transparent than it was before. People were ignorant about it before since they didn't see it.

The offers you used to see at Best Buy and Walmart will change to accommodate ATT and Verizon's new plans. Both offered $250 gift cards this holiday season.

Verizon is rumored to be ending 2 year contracts for all other plans buy second quarter of this year, so you didnt lose anything by switching, that you wouldn't lose in 6 months anyway.

They no longer honor the $20/month line price when you do the 2 year upgrade. Which they do not tell you.

It seems like Verizon is constantly changing its plans around and not telling anyone. Then you either stay with an old usually higher priced plan or switch to the new but losing any benefits you had with the old one.

Verizon Wireless and the other carriers frequently review their plan offers to maximize their profits over operating expenses. It is good business sense.

I understand that. I actually agree with that. What I don't agree with is the rollout of the new plans and the frequency at which they are updated. I also kind of want to know how long before we just get an unlimited data plan back into the fold. I miss that.

When they can do what other carriers can do. Control network optimization. When other spectrum being sold I will bet when the other carriers buy them and go under the same rules unlimited will disappear.
