Anyone have any idea on the expected date/time that wifi calling will come to Apple devices?
JohnnyDoe, I'm guessing that you're asking about iOS wifi calling for all of the benefits it brings (currently available on TMobile and ATT). For those not familiar, this not only allows calls from your iPhone using wifi (especially helpful in low signal areas), but it allows you to send and receive calls on your iPad, Mac, and/or Apple Watch, even if your phone isn't with you (or even turned on, for that matter). To me, this feature is huge and even more beneficial that the low-signal scenario. The Verizon app does not provide this. So, the question is, when will Verizon get this same functionality? The latest news I read suggests "early in 2016" but that's a pretty big window. Some of us are at contracts 'end and aren't really particular about carriers (all the main carriers have the same good signal in my area). So, aside from overall pricing, this service is certainly a variable when deciding which career to go with/stay with. It would be nice to know if Verizon is close to implementing this because, if so, it's less of a factor when deciding on renewing contracts or changing carriers. Here's a link for details on iOS wifi calling: Make a call with Wi-Fi Calling - Apple Support
If you have Verizon Messages installed on your iPhone, you can already use wifi calling on Apple devices, on the iPhone 6 at least, as I have had that capability for quite some time now.
Calls to your phone number are automatically routed to your phone via Verizon Messages and you can answer as you would normally. I don't recall if you simply dial normally to make a call or have to open Verizon Messages though. When I get home tonight I will switch back to the iPhone and confirm one way or the other.
Hi rcschnoor, On a iPhone 6s Plus 128GB with iOS9.2 I tried Wi-Fi calling with the Verizon Messages + app. Just to see if it did work, I have no real interest in using it myself, but it did not.
I then called Total Mobile Protection which I have through Asurion to get some further information. I was told that it has been released for some devices but that it wasn't out yet in full force. That for iPhone's above iPhone 6, it has not and that iPhone's are usually last. They also said it would be released in the future for the iPhone 6s Plus but not for awhile perhaps a year.
No trees were harmed by this message. However, several trillion electrons were extremely inconvenienced.

There may be a problem with iOS 9.2, though, as it does not work well with all apps. There are some apps which do not work well with iOS 9.2 as I have been asked by my employer to delay updating to this newest iOS until further notice as MobileIron, a secure business platform, has become useless in iOS 9.2 vs iOS 9.1.
Did you check the settings in your Verizon Messages app? If I remember correctly there was a setting in the app in order to activate wifi calling, but I may be mistaken. When I get home tonight, I will confirm one way or the other.

I'm not sure that Assurion would be the best source of information for Verizon apps. Assurion is an independent insurance provider for Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile & AT&T. Assurion does not write or provide support for Verizon apps which would include Verizon Messages.
I've since removed Verizon Messages +, iMessages is what I prefer with the iPhone. I had at the time gone into the Settings of Verizon Messages + for Wi-Fi calling, can't recall now what setting it was, but it wasn't even active.
But yes post back with the functionality you're able to receive with using VM+ with the iPhone 6.
VM+ would be useless to me. But may be quite useful for someone that has a weak Cellular signal but a good internet one.
Asurion is a branch of Liberty Mutual ins. But by taking Total Mobile Protection you get support included by making a phone call. The support comes from a certified Verizon Tech Coach that works directly for Verizon.
When calling and asking for information. I spoke with a Tech who thought I was at first just referring to Wi-Fi calling. I then made it clear that I specifically meant if Verizon Messages + Wi-Fi calling would work with the iPhone 6s Plus. Which is the feed back I got and wrote in my previous post.
That was the best I could conclude, hopefully you may come back with something more encouraging for potential users.
MobileIron works fine on iOS 9.2. Perhaps your corporate network administrator should upgrade their MobileIron Core/VSP?
Will wifi calling allow for text messages to be sent/received over wifi? I know with Android devices (or some at least) this IS the case - just didn't know if anyone knows when it comes out for iOS devices if it will be the same or not.
I appreciate you bringing your inquiry forward. You do have the ability to do so via Verizon Messages. In order to ensure that all messages are received on Verizon Messages you may need to turn iMessage off on your iPhone. Will wifi calling ever be part of a future carrier update in the settings? I know we are currently on Verizon 23.2, but with a future update with this become natively integrated? I really don't want to use to the Verizon Messages program because I like the iOS integration of it's own native Messages app.
I use Google Hangouts calling with my wifi. Works fine. So does Skype.
I can appreciate your interest with the update and Wi-Fi calling. We do hope to grow the list of Wi-Fi calling devices that are HD voice capable. When it comes to WiFi calling, it all depends on the carrier to whether or not make it available to its customers AND what specific (brand and model) devices will they make it available to.
They usually make it available to the high end (most expensive) devices first (of course). So, the latest iPhones and Galaxies should be first. Just like AT&T did. I'm an AT&T customer, actually.

How is wifi calling working on AT&T with iPhones? Any hiccups with it? Are you able to send/receive SMS/MMS texts over wifi on AT&T?
Actually, I haven't used WiFi calling on AT&T yet. I need to activate it on my iPhone 6 first, but that's just a formality; it's very easy. It's just a matter of tapping a button and it should be all set... permanently I believe (unless you turn it off later on). And, then, according to what I have read, the phone should use WiFi calling ONLY when it detects that the cellular signal is too low.
